What happens to quarantined malware?

I just downloaded F-Prot's antivirus software. I've been using Norton Antivirus for years, but I get nervous when I read about people's problems with it.

My NAV expires in a few days. I plan to use Add/Remove Programs to get rid of it (and then maybe I'll try the tool I saw on a different page here to get any remnants).

My question: I scanned the hard drive today with F-Prot, and it found a bunch of files (old MyDoom files, I think some of them were). that had been quarantined by NAV. Just as NAV couldn't remove those files, F-Prot couldn't either. When I remove NAV, what happens to those files? They're not part of NAV, so they won't be removed with NAV, right? So now I'll have worms on my HD?

    I have:
    Computer
    OS Microsoft Windows XP Professional
OS Service Pack Service Pack 2
    Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180

    Motherboard
    CPU Type Intel Pentium 4A, 2000 MHz (5 x 400)
Motherboard Name Dell Computer Corporation Dimension 8200
    Motherboard Chipset Intel Tehama i850(E)
    System Memory 512 MB (RDRAM)
    BIOS Type Phoenix (04/18/02)

    Thanks for any help!

They are in quarantine in Nav?
Is there the option to Delete them there?
    If so...then delete them.
