My wife has been using this laptop to play on for @ a yr. She started complaining @ 2 wks. ago that it was taking forever to shut down. She spends most of the time on FACEBOOK.I know she doesn't run any maint./cleaning programs despite my asking.
I started by running CCleaner on it but for some reason the computer rebooted during the process. I reran it then ran the registry cleaner to completion. One item continues to come up when the registry cleaner is run no matter how many times I tell the cleaner to fix it. The item "HKLM/software/Microsoft/windows/current version/shareddll". "Path is C:/windows/sys32/drivers/vsdatant.sys"
When I restart it I have 2 error messages, the first stated "could not load' (I can't show the symbols,6 squares between apostrophes)' "specified in registry.Make sure you typed the name correctly, then try again. To search for file, click START button, then click search.
The second message has DESKTOP in the top left corner of the window and says "could not load (6 sqrs.again) specified in registry. Make sure the file exist on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry".
I ran the R & R me first, then based on previous experience for a couple of months ago I ran TDSSkiller & MBRcheck.
When I tried to run Combofix it would go to the Auto scan window then stop. No matter how long I let it sit it never showed any stages.
MBRcheck seemed to run but when it finished & said press any key to continue it wouldn't respond, just like Combofix I had to shut down the machine to get out of it.
This is an older Toshiba laptop, a Satellite L25,celeron R processor,1.6ghz,I've upgraded the ram to 1.87G.
When I started to attach the logs I found SAS doesn't have any logs saved despite the box to save all logs being checked. MBam has a log but I can't get it out of the log file on the program. If it helps any both were clean.

We don't recommend registry cleaners. That said, I am not finding any malware in your logs. I suggest you post in the software forum for further assistance.

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0

Hi TimW and thanks for the quick response. I wasn't sure where to put this but since Combofix wasn't running at all and MBRcheck wouldn't respond I figured it was malware. I'll go to software for info. Thanks again for the help.
