I was wondering who you thought was the best, and now I know. :) I did love his Doctor as well, and I did know he was Worzel Gummidge although I have never seen it. I believe he was also in Super Ted, but I cannot remember what was the character he played. I remember meeting him at the Who Tour in 1987, and I thought he was great!

I've only been to one convention since 1999, but before that I went to a ton of them from 1986 to 1999. I guess you could say that I got tired of the crowds since there's only one huge convention in town. I've been to Star Trek conventions and even conventions that have a mixture of guests from Star Trek, Doctor Who, Lost In Space, and even Blake's 7. It was a wild ride. :)

I'm glad that was explained before I even asked what a wagon wheel was. :) I know some terminology, but not that one. And now I do. <promptly adds that to his British Dictionary>

Yes, he was my fav Doctor as well. I was bought up on the original series in the sixties (when I was a kid). I had the pleasure of meeting his acquaintance at a dinner party in '79. All I can say is Jon was as much of a gentleman I.R.L. as on T.V. He was amongst a while bunch of other guests - some famous, some nobodies (like me, I guess, LoL). Still got some old home movies with a little bit with him on it, outside of the Lodge, I.I.R.C.

I remember Blake's 7 in the '70's. Still watch it on vid occasionally. Showing my age again, Ah well. ;)

I don't think much of the new seasons. Got too much away from the original 'recipe' and characters, I.M.O.

Oh yeah, Wagon Wheels sure have shrunk., What a swiz! :(

Same here. PBS here in the states ran him, in the 70s IIRC. PBS was always way behind what BBC was doing, and I didn't see much of any later Doctors.

Thats a whole thread in itself,I had to check this one up on the net, burtons who make them claimed they have never shrunk, whats worse as I'v just found out they are no longer covered in chocolate, they are now chocolate flavoured  cheap b$$$$$$$ :(

I'm sure they have shrunk as they have abandoned the "Wagon wheels are so big you cant eat them" ad campain

Yeah I thought a translation necessary, after being offered biscuits and gravy in the US for the first time as Brit! How gross is that ;)

Your avatar sure has inspired the diversity of this thread Brit TV Nut :D

I was one of the few americans that got to see the series premier. Don't remember the old mans name, and no one else will see him unless they find a collection of his shows, seems BBC threw them away thinking it was a kiddie show. My dad was stationed in England at the time, near Lakenheath.

William Hartnell was the very first Doctor, with he grey hair. I actually have the first episode made on tape when it was re-released back in the '80's. It was titled "An Unearthly Child", about Susan, his daughter. Patrick Troughton was the second Doctor (the guy with the flute). Also got the second one, about the cave men type people.

Sadly many episodes of these two series, and some of the third, have been destroyed :(. And since it was before home VCR’s, we’re basically, out of luck.

My family are also Dr. Who fans (all the doctors). Number one son has recently purchased the complete First series of the new (now old) Doctor Who (Christopher Eccleston) and Rose (Billie Piper) in a 5 disc boxed set DVD edition released in the shape of the Tardis ( Police Public Call box ).
    Fairly limited edition, I think.
Tardis is approximately 5" square, and 7½ tall. Really looks the part, with 5 Dvd's inside.

We are waiting for the Complete Second series (of the newer young Doctor), hopefully being released in another Tardis shaped boxed set.

When I was in middle school they were playing the Beastie Boys' Sabatoge video a lot. My brother started calling me Cochese after one of the characters in the video. It just became a nickname.

i remember all us kids getting those little torches (flashlights) that you could put shapes on the end, for Christmas each year. we would play darleks and misterons until the batteries ran out (about one day!!). you had to have two torches to play misterons, so there were never ending arguments about who's got who's torch. (no wonder my mum hated us lol)

Thankyou! Commendations are always welcome, Felinity, and after re-reading your post about 'nicks' I looked at your bio. I think it suits you very well. By the way - impressive tat! :)

How do you do, Darlene here, added the numbers cuz most places require more to a user name, just got used to using this. Didn't know about the avatars when I signed up, takes me a while, then it's usually too late.

Been meaning to comment on you tattoo, very nice! Again I've waited deciding what and where to get one that now if I would it would look like something with it's teeth out, even if it had no teeth to begin with. Hope your recovery is going well.

It's not too late. Click on "UserCP" (user control panel) in the dark bar near the top of the screen, click on "Edit Avatar" in the left column, and you can either select one of many standard ones that MG keeps around, or you can import an image of your own. If you use your own image, the maximum size of your custom image is 64 by 64 pixels or 7.8 KB (whichever is smaller).

Wow - I was impressed with the tattoo alone - but your own artwork! That is very cool!

I swear I have seen your nick somewhere before, but I can't place where. I've been online since 1997 (not always under Natakel. I've had a few other nicks over the years).

    Anyway, nice tatt!

Geez, I get busy with things offline and this is what happens, I started something. Ah well, my work is done. ;)

It is really nice connecting to other Doctor Who fans no matter where you go. I do happen to like the "new series," but I can agree it isn't like the days of old. It's just the changing of the times, and at least I can get someone into the series with the Ninth Doctor than say having them watch from the First Doctor since you can't watch all of them in order with all the missing episodes out there.

Cool tattoo, done with both taste, style and skill, i.m.o. and interesting Bio. Checked out your site and I liked both how it was put together, and more importantly , the topics. I'll take another peek at it later :).

@ Brit TV Nut: Yeah, a shame about a lot of the early episodes gone forever.

Charmadette is the name of a famous alltime money earning quarter horse stud. I was looking for a screen name so I just looked in the Quarterhorse Journal and charmadette sounded good to me. My avatar was that little blonde mg angel till i realized she wasn't wearing any clothes so i changed it to the mg c.

My avatar is the mascot of one of my favorite heavy metal bands, Megadeth. They've been around since the early eighties. The name is the title of one of their songs. It is about how the earth is being destroyed and we ignore the problem. The song ends with "Now I can only laugh, as I read our epitaph. We end our lives as moles, in the dark of dawn patrol". I am also a big fan of both Judas Priest and Doctor Who! I'm mixed about the new Doctor. There have been good episodes and bad. I can't wait to see the episode with the Doctor's old campanion. What was her name? The one who was a flight attendant?

  29. British TV Nut

The episode with the one coming up this Friday is Sarah Jane Smith. She is perhaps one of the most memorable companions from the mid 70s. The one who was the flight attendant is Tegan Jovanka just so you know. :) (here goes me and my useless information spouting out of my mouth.. erm.. I mean my fingers)

The second series of the new Doctor just finished here last Saturday with Rose exiting to another dimension to be with her family. At the very end the Doctor meets a new girl, but I didn''t recognise her as Sarah Jane, or Tegan. Guess I'll have to wait until the 3rd series starts in OZ. Bazza

hehe...that's taken me back 20+ years, but I can still hear the words "if you want to get into it, you've got to get out of it"......

I saw them live twice, once at Bristol's Colston Hall and another time at Warwick University. Also saw Nick perform with his own band in the 80's at Coventry Polytechnic.
