Ok so I have gotten a few of these weird emails and I looked them up on google.
Some of them I got I found on this website:

    https://www1.columbia.edu/sec/bboard/ssw/suboard/archive/2007_01/threads.html#00020

my question: What is a Mail Thread Index? Also, Im thinking this is just a bunch of crappy spam. But why would anyone send this stuff to me? and How did they get my email address? Its not like they are getting my computer info by sending me an email are they?

    Hello n Welcome Deagle,

*I did not click on your link... If you post in a forum you should not post a link unless you know it's safe.

    1) On the Internet Users or newsgroups and similar forums, a thread is a sequence of responses to an initial message posting. This enables you to follow or join an individual discussion in a newsgroup from among the many that may be there. A thread is usually shown graphically as an initial message and successive messages "hung off" the original message. As a newsgroup user, you contribute to a thread by specifying a "Reference" topic as part of your message.

    2) In computer programming, a thread is placeholder information associated with a single use of a program that can handle multiple concurrent users. From the program's point-of-view, a thread is the information needed to serve one individual user or a particular service request.

I think in your case ur asking about the email thread...the path it took. Don't click on it just block it, report it as spam or choose junk depending on ur options in email. If you don't know what it is - get rid of it. You just got on a spam list, its easy to do or this is cleverly disguised spam. I'm an optimist, so i think you just made an oops, i've been there n done that :p

That index is a list of posts/email in a plain form from this persons university account https://www1.columbia.edu/sec/bboard/ssw/cussw-aa/ that website is harmess

but the spam your recieving is possibly due to a few things noteably,

    1. If you sign up to some newsletters your email address is sometimes sold on to make money for those websites, which is why you need to read the privacy info from a website.

    2. You posted your email address in a post on a webforum, blog etc etc as its likely a spam harvesting application which hunts the net for listed email addresses and harvestes them for selling on to spammers.

    3. A friend of yours has malware in which some can copy a persons address book email addresses and then use them to send spam.

Just delete spam, never click on any links or open any attachments in email you dont know who sent it.
