    Hi all

Please can you advise what is the best cpu i can buy today to replace my Phenom ii x 6 965.

    GA-MA790XT-UD4P (motherboard.
    AM3 socket.

To me it looks like the AMD Phenom II X6 1100T is the best option that would fit?

i know it is marginal difference but would like to know please.

I am also weighing up if it is possible to build my own as i have a ton of PSU, RAM, HDD, 5 towers and plenty of motherboards from the same era.

but i know i might need to instead buy a good 2nd hand motherboard that allows a decent CPU and go from there. My spend range is £150. i already have decent 670 and a backup 5770.

Not aiming for the best but just something decent.

I have zero issues playing total war games or world of warships on mt current AMD Phenom II X4 965 setup.

my intention is to give my current one to my kids to use and create another or upgrade mine and then upgrade a athlon ii x3 440 for them

If any of you gurus could assist that would be great.

    thank you

Forget throwing good money at a dead 'board factor, buy a quality SSD that'll massively boost responsiveness (and is able to be moved on in the future), eg: https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Crucial-MX500-250GB-vs-Samsung-860-Evo-250GB/3951vs3949

Save up for a more modern build.

@wile: have you actually looked at the stats of your components? "Performing way below expectations (3rd percentile)", "Performing way below expectations (9th percentile)" and "Performing way below expectations (17th percentile)" really aren't good adverts for your building/tuning skills.

    Hi gents

Primary i just need to know if the 1100T is the best fit for that motherboard as i can get one this week and upgrade.

then later this year then look to upgrade properly but i cannot really spend much as of yet. So looking for short time upgrade that allows me to then do a follow on upgrade to the athlon ii x 3 asset for kids. then as above maybe get a i3 or i5 for £200 Since i have a lot of bits for a desktop but lack a good cpu and motherboard, those are the 2 areas i need to focus on. You are right though a SSD would help but they are still too expensive for the low storage they contain. I already run at 775gb over 3 HDD fitted into my machine. Plus not yet sure what to use on the SSD, just windows?

if i bought just a SSD and AMD Phenom II X6 1100T now it could provide a good short term boost to my current desktop. increasing gaming score 2%, desktop score 11% and workstation score 7% for around £100 then later in the year put more into an i3 or i5 and still use the SSD.

Would not mind going straight to a i3 or i5 now but most refurbished ones on offer are of poor spec.

If i perhaps were to build my own i3/i5, all i will need will be a CPU, motherboard i would imagine so that is another option as i think i would have everything else taken care off from other desktops. i have a range of 250, 350, 450, 550 PSU with a range of connectors for sata/molex. i have a PCIe wireless card, GPU 670 already and 2x 4gb ram sticks and lots of other 2gb sticks.

is there a way to take the windows 10 from my current desktop to a new built desktop? or do i just transfer the HDD that holds windows on to new desktop. While i have done some minor hardware tinkering, i still have some gaps in knowledge so apologise if i ask any noob questions.

    thank you

I notice that the motherboard can take max 16gb ram at 1600 mhz from PC SPEC website. however when i add in any type of 1600mhz into userbenchmark it says they it is incompatible.

    Those 2990WX results are all Virtualbox using 4C 4T and 8C 8T.

ok going back on subject. a 1100T will cost too much for the small benefit it will provide.

that CPU monkey does not allow me to create or build a design. that was why i was using user benchmark. although i still have not confirmed if the motherboard will take 16gb ram or only 8.

looks as though my best chance is to either buy an i3 or i5 and the motherboard. i should have everything else.

Is there anything i should watch out for when attempting to build my own? is there better sites that help with what is compatible with the motherboard?

    thank you
