what is busybox?

and what is it used for? the reason I ask is that I just installed a wireless router and when I added a password to it...I looked at the logs and this program was listed...I googled it but I have no idea what I have read...to me it sounds like some sort of keylogger program for linux systems...this is my first time using a wireless router so I am kind of worried that I have been infected...also I ran the wireless for 2 days with no wpa2 protection...please and thankyou for any and all feedback you can give...

In layman's terms, it looks like your router is an "embedded linux" device and busybox is the "toolset" of programs that run that device and allow for tweaks. I'm pretty sure if you kill that program from the list, your router will no longer work, or will at least behave weirdly. If I'm wrong, I hope someone chimes in and corrects me, but I think you're fine.

 

cool...thanks a bunch Hedon James...that makes sense...and plodr that was the site I found and read which made me think someone was trying to hack the system...I have a dlink router...I will ask them if that is the program they use...I really got to get up on this wireless stuff...thanks again to both of you. I've been trying to avoid the wireless thing but my g/f son has a iphone and an xbox which I usually just string a cable for him to use but with the phone and all it seemed easier just to do the wireless thing...off I go to read and learn...

 

kench, remember to change the password on your router from the default.
