Hello. AS OF TODAY, what is the 'best' (in your opinion BASED ON 'FACTS') security software solution suite (covers all malware, adware, firewall, e-mail protection, internet protection, computer protection, etc... package) out there "NOW"??? I know the ratings ranking changes from year to year "big time".

I am using BitDefender Total Security 2011 and I have been having reoccurring issues. I had a great BD Total Security "2010" package installed with little or no problems previously, but this year with their new version, it has been plaguing me to death with issues. I have been working with a higher tier support tech and we just seem to be going in circles with my issues anymore -- no resolutions.

Please reply. I know it is your opinion, and I am willing to listen.

    Thank you!

Would help if you mentioned what version of windows you are running.
I mention this because I never rely on a suite from a single company. I protect my systems with products from several different companies.

The best security, is the end user. No matter what software package that a person is using, it is not going to stop a human from getting the curiosity gene going.

I'm with plodr as I don't like suites either, there is a sticky in the malware forum on how to protect oneself. Sorry if I didn't answer your question about suites. There's a site that rates suites, I'm sure someone here knows of it.

    +1 for brownizs' comment.

    Hello. Thanks for your replies.

Yes, plodr! Good point. I should of added that to my OP. I have Windows 7 Pro. 32-Bit.

Yes I agree with brownizs, you gotta wonder what is better out there than what you currently have -- espeically when you start having issues with your current product/version. Well, so far, it seems that I have fixed my issues with BDTS 2011. ...and when that happens we chill and forget about it. It takes much time to research and look around for something really good. It seems all the security suites some time or another will have some sort of issues you have to deal with. How long until the next large issue that drives me to look again for another security suite??? Time will tell.

augiedoggie made a good point: "There's a site that rates suites, I'm sure someone here knows of it." Yes, if anyone knows it, I would like to read it myself.

    Thanks!

Win 7 has a good firewall. Make sure you have it set up properly and you won't need another firewall.
Add to this a free antivirus (Avast, AntiVir or MS Security Essentials) and a malware detector.
My choice to detect malware is Malwarebytes. I saw it in action (used it to clean up a computer that was almost unusable). I purchased a few licenses for my home use, based on the great job it did cleaning up and the gal whose computer I cleaned, also purchased a license for her computer.
There is a free version which doesn't offer real time protection, so based on your browsing habits, the free version might be all you need.

I also run SpywareBlaster (though this might create a problem on Win 7) to keep evil sites from planting anything on my computer.

I just used Kaspersky, it flagged a virus that didnt exist on every boot and would not remove it. Pass. Windows 7 firewall is what all Microsoft programs are; Bare bones to the point of useless. Hardware firewall rules, ie a router which most people have nowadays. I'm with you on CCleaner but if your going to give advice on programs like Kaspersky, try to use them so you can speak from knowledge. In another thread you knocked Nortons which we would agree with a few years ago but if you have not used it since the 2010 version then you are unaware of how fast it is now. Norton also is an industry leader in detection and removal of new threats, even when their programs were bloated.

I honestly don't understand your line about spyware but these change and currently Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware are the best two you want to try.

Yes, but your not talking to yourself, your talking to the AVERAGE user here. Keep this in mind when making your points and dont bother arguing with the site owner. You have no Norton or Kaspersly experience except what you have been told. I never mentioned Zone Alarm, I mentioned a hardware router so we agree there.

Conduit and other ADWARE slips by most anti-virus and people don't know or want them and they are easily removed with the free apps you love so much.

Kaspersky was a fresh install, so it was up to date. Once again, your making assumptions. You realize your talking to the site owner, right? Not my first dance my friend. If you want to argue with me, your going to lose. We agree in principle on some but your making arguments I have real world trial and error with and your only sharing what you heard. Had you run Nortons numerous times on numerous machines over the past 15 years as I have, we could argue it. But you can't, so we won't.

Just keep in mind your often talking to people who are desperate here. Norton can be a good all in one solution for Joe Blow who just wants to email, Facebook and shop online. Often a 1 step solution simplifies it for them, so sometimes you have to send them to that one step solution, NOT steer them to 3, 4 or 5 different programs. Thats all :)

Since he emailed me, I think this says it all:

Really, I have to explain my Norton position AGAIN? How about you read above. Again. Read it.

ADware is only a problem for people who watch porn and gamble ? BAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Thanks for making my point, I figured you were just knowledgeable enough to be dangerous. I was right.

"Glad you agree on some of the points but it is down right rude and abusive to criticse me when I am only offering advice, you have no idea who i am, what I do or what experience I have."

We do now. I was correct and am protecting our readers from bad information. Again, what is bad information? Information that is based on pure opinion and what you have heard without any personal real world knowledge. Thanks for visiting, but you need to stick to facts, I am as protective of our readers as you will find. This isnt like other sites, you can't come in and spout whatever you feel like and pass it off as fact.

P.S You drew my attention with this: "yes your an idiot"

You want respect here, you EARN it. You don't call people idiots here then complain because you were criticized. Now of course I am being a bit of a dick but I am the owner\moderator and ruler so sometimes you have to be that way. Otherwise, I see plenty of good advice from you in general, hope you hang around, I really do.

By the way, last email he sent me said that he never called anyone an idiot. I have asked him to go somewhere else where he seems smarter, maybe AOL forums?
