What is the best Wireless Adapter?

  1. Hello Geeks,

I was curious on what the best brand of wireless adapters for desktops are or maximum signal strength I should be looking for?

Right now I working on a desktop computer and need to do final updates via internet. The computer is setup in my room and I don't have a long enough Ethernet cable that reaches from the living room to the bedroom. My second thought was that it would be easier to just buy a Wireless Adapter. But I don't know what a quality brand is or the type of specifications to look for for maximum signal strength.

Hard to say what is best. But good ones are generally made by the top wireless router manufacturers.

    I like the Netgear brand.

Other good ones are; Cisco Linksys, TP-Link, Belkin.

Best advice, get the same brand as your wireless router for best compatibility. Also, get one that supports your router's wireless protocols for best speed and price.

If you are looking for a wireless adapter always go for the n band as its best for signal strength or even better N+ but some routers don't accept N+.

I have Netgear WNDA 4100, Cisco 2500, and D-Link WUA-2340. All work great. If as Blujay says one matches your router -great. I can unplug one and plug the next one in and hard to tell the difference. I can plug one each into two computers here for home networking also. Available in most wallymarts or office and home depots. Remember the cisco being a little cheaper. An electrical place may be able to make a cable just as cheap.? Cisco was 39 or 49 $.

Why not AC? I prefer it over N.

yes guys, wireless ac is the newest, fastest and has the longest range of all so far, but also right now, significantly more expensive. Also, as I said above, the router in use has to support it. No use in buying a wireless ac wireless dongle, and your router only supports b/g or b/g/n

D-Link, also a very good brand.
