Ran a phillips head screwdriver 'gouging' across the mobo when attempting to install it! Asus A8V deluxe......i could have cried!

and ohh!...yeah, locking myself out (and everyone else) of my own wireless network when playing with WEP security settings.

thats all im willing to admit anyway!

    Regards..

edit: anyone need a second hand mobo going cheap?

I once agreed to help a friend who was having computer problems...

This particular friend called me to tell me he had deleted the dangerous virus that looked like a teddy bear that he had gotten an email about... (remember the win 98 hoax that went around the web for years and years).

This friend also infected his friends computers when he got a nasty little virus that spread through outlook express, which he insisted on using, despite his lack of AV or firewall...

This friend actually threw his computer in the bin (still pisses me off, I could have used it as a server dammit) when he couldn't clean out the viruses, and got a new one (and don't even get me started, what a ripoff, he actually believed the salesperson who told him it was a good buy... Fgs!). The new one was the one I reluctantly agreed to help with, when that one also got infected...

I won't do a thing again, unless he comes to me BEFORE he has a problem, so that I can do some damage control... :D

The one with a hole in it? You can always claim it is an extra air vent shaft for cooling! :D

My county's high school decided to save money by letting some of their tech savy male students fix all the school's computers. These boy's were savy allright. They ordered $12,000.00 worth of parts and never installed them. They snuck out to our barn at 2:00am and hid the parts inside unbeknownst to us. They ended up arrested and faced time in the pennitentiary. The judge let one join the Army instead and he is now in Iraq.

Dumbest thing ever? Installing a piece of Symantec software! It took me almost a week to get rid of that thing and its companion BSODs!

Heh, my number one would be not performing backups before I installed a version of Norton. That hard drive went kaput along with around 80 MB of text files.

I still use Norton though. Getting a 3 license copy for free from a slickdeals.net item really helped out.

    Temper Temper..
Computer stress is not our friend. Embarrassing but, once upon a time before i had even heard of MG my pc was in real turmoil and just slowww, games wouldn't run, my dial-up connection was one big error, there was a very annoying loud vibration coming from god knows where, etc...
I ended up getting so frustrated I actually picked up the case about two feet and dropped it:eek:. Needless to say that didn't fix any thing....The heat sink and fan snapped right off the proc and mobo! Never try that at home! Fortunately i was able to drill a couple of holes through the case and use speakerwire to literally tie it back in place...It worked! My friend bought the 766Mhz Duron from me and still uses it to this day...two knots of wire on the outside of the case, and string to fix the stretching over time.:D
For the other issues, format was much less time consuming:p
    oopsrolleyes

Back in 2000, with my first computer, I came across a little program called "Gator" on the Internet.

I read the description and thought, "Hey, that sounds like a handy little program." So I installed it.

I read somewhere about increasing the virtual memory and went ahead. The PC is now on the floor behind me gathering dust, it never rebooted after. I fitted a new video card in the PC i'm using now and decided i wanted to watch a film on my TV via the hard drive, connected PC to TV via S video connector and flash bang smoky monitor syndrome with a rather alarming clicking sound ( Apparently you have to change some settings  ) Thankfully the PC, Vid card and TV where ok but the 2 days waiting to get hold of another monitor where a nightmare.
