Im trying to clean up my system, move things around, etc. I came accross this folder named: 15ed77212e7bac9681d8aed0aad can anyone tell me what it is? Can I move it to my second disk (just for files, photos, music, etc) without damaging anything. Can I delete it? Its 210 megs in size and was created in 2002??? Lots of dll files. Sub folders named asms, download, ip, lang, new, update. When I try to open those folders it tells me access denied. I had a crash a few months back. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

It looks like a registry file of some sort
    Where/How did you find it?

where is this folder? just in the c: drive? in a temp folder?
that is quite a strange name for a folder to just be sitting around - is there any error when you open the subfolders or just access denied?

toni is correct, that looks like the kind of gibberish you would make and call a registry...what are the names of some of the dlls?

Do not know if this helps but when you updated to SP2, is probable when you picked this up as I did. In my case the file name is slightly different 5bcdea96ee........, but it contains Dll's from MS, and were put there after SP2 install package.

With regards to moving it, cannot see a problem, for if you do have problems on reboot you can move them back, but knowing MS they cannot be moved.

ah I looked on the other computer - i have one too :) the folder called update is service pack installer and readme, spmsg.dll is some kinda service pack messages, the spuninst.exe in unneeded (sp2 uninstall) the asms folder is either American Society for Mass Spectrometry or the infinitly more likely install information, as are the rest of the folders. after installation, the only reason they would be needed is to uninstall SP2

its just sitting in the C drive, the very first file/folder. I dont like having stuff I dont know, but this thing is stumping me. Maybe an officer or upper level enlisted personnel will come up and let us know. Thanks fr trying. And gee, sorry some of you got this thing too.

It looks like you got the answer to your question and simply mistrust the source. Those little 'labels' under the names only reflect the # of posts made...NOT how knowledgeable the poster is.

Lagrimas I think if you double check the file folder in C: you are refering to you will find that this is installed by MS as noted before so will not be a problem. It hasn't been for me, and has been there since SP2 came out. There are numerous files that you cannot see that MS has installed on your computer with every update, if you uncheck hidden files.
