I just unplugged a external portable drive I had connected to my desktop (I believe it was a Seagate, maybe a Western Digital), and it shows this little gray icon with an exclamation mark in it. I've researched it, and I believe it has to do with enhanced storage. Just wanting to make sure it's not signaling a drive error/failure. But it didn't appear on the desktop. Only when I moved it over to my laptop (both running Windows 7).

Does the laptop run any disk monitoring software like HD Sentinel?
It may be an icon showing the drive health or that it cannot read the drive if it’s disconnected.

I have one of those but mine doesn't show a drive letter. (desktop) Did you assign a permanent letter to the hd?

Right click the icon, select properties and post what it says.

I'll check my netbook later and see what it looks like there.
