That solves this mystery- I knew MG could help. :drool

My daughter said this was here last week and it has gotten bigger. (she was on vacation for a week and not here) I fear it is a Mama about to unleash many more of these, so off to see what sprays are available.

You see garden spiders mostly in the fall. The females are bigger than the males. They aren't poison and are good to have since they get other insects.

    I'd leave it.

I agree with LauraR. Garden spiders are not harmless, unless you count the scare factor. I'd leave it alone and let it eat bugs.

Man i hate spiders. They kill the other nasty bugs though, so i usually leave them alone unless they get in my way. meaning if i can step on the bugger hes a goner.

the one phantom posted is cool looking though. id let that guy live because hes cool. black widow on the other hand... id run away to buy some ultra kill...

Laura, do you get the wolf spiders down there? Man they're ugly.. I hate when I see one shoot across the floor.. I sprayed one of those things for no less than 15 seconds with a bottle of raid, and it just kept on running. Finally.. I used some high grade cleaning alcohol we have at the shop here, and it was no more. It's odd.. half a bottle of raid against a few drops of Methyl Eythl Ketone and there's no comparison LOL.

Oh yeah. Those are friggen freaky...even for me who isn't bothered by spiders. For the longest time I thought they were brown recluse spiders (anyone who doesn't know what they are, google images and see what a bite can do...just think necrosis :puke) which is why they scared the crap out of me. We get them in our garage and basement. You want to talk about huge! I swear they are mutants! :eek

One of the primary prey items for wolf spiders is other spiders. So if you hate spiders, having a few wolf spiders around might be better than having lots of other spiders.

Had a big spider abseil down from the ceiling to me the other night... he saw me see him- and darted underneath the sleeping blanket thats folded up on the floor.... he lay hiding, I figured out his position, radar'd him out... got rid of him- started to relax...then out corner of my eye saw one three times the size of the last arachnid on the ceiling directly over my BED! :eek

My Dad was in bed... I had to get the next door neighbour round to get rid of it :-D

Holy cr@p this thread has given me goosebumps :|

I am a few steps back from a full phobia of spiders (arachnophobia) but living in good old blighty [england] fortunately we don't have any native really nasty ones, BUT we do get some big .f@#*%$s and with the weather getting cooler outside now, if we have the heating on you can guarantee a few will come out to get a warm [read: get splattered]

Living in 103 year old victorian house doesnt help either... so many gaps 'n' nooks 'n' crannies.

Quite frankly Bored' i would probably have to move if i had something like that living outside my bedroom window :(

you are a better man than me :p

    Q

Oh yeah, my GF's hairspray is a cracking tool for getting the spiders with, it doesnt kill them straight away but it cetainly slows them down to a crawl..... then the swift and irrefutable justice can be dished out via my shoe :)

Entomologists say that we're usually within three feet of a spider all of our lives. Have a nice day.;):-D

Thanks augie, im sure ill sleep great tonight :p

One thing i always notice about spiders is, people always say "they're more scare of us than we are of them" .....

Well can anyone explain why they always seem ot run towards me instead of away when i try to kill them?

Can they sense fear like dogs?
