Eh, it's probably both reasons. The best that we can do is insulate ourselves with proper protection software and e-mail hygiene meaning if it doesn't come from a friend, just delete the e-mail. though at times one of your friend's computer may also be infected. Don't open any attachments unless you're sure that your friend sent it. Sad state of affairs but we have to deal with it as best as we can.:)

Personally, I think that the reason we are seeing more and more malware proggies now is because the access to learning how to code is easier and mroe available now than anytime in the past. I mean you can google code tutorials and find just about anything you want.

The reason people write them is becuase they feel some need to be validated and the only way they feel they can obtain that validation is by negative means. I have long held that over the last several generations we have become less and less well adjusted to the world. The main problem is that we are moving farther and farther away from each other on a personal and human basis. I remember when I was a kid (OK, I am only 34 now, but you'll understand I hope) when My mom had to do some banking business, we went to the bank, and people knew each other. We knew all the tellers and they knew us. When you went to the store to buy stuff, you knew most of the people working there as they had been there for a long time and were into customer service. The stores have gotten bigger, the people more anonymous and the personal interaction less.

Look at how the average person shops and communicates now. It is all online. I mean, youwant to check your account balance and pay some bills, log in and go to town, you want to get something nice for your sweetie for Valentine's Day, go online and get something. Technology has had the unfortunate side effect of dehumanizing the world. When I was younger, we had an Atari system, and the most violent thing i saw was when playing pitfall and the guy was eaten by an alligator. Then came NES, and there was duck hunt. Now FPS and TPS games abound and the gore is all over. The youger generations are loosing the respect for themselves and life in general that makes the world go round in a nice way.

The other night, wiating for the bus, someone was telling me that this is the sign that the Apocalypse is coming that the Rapture is at hand.... if you want to believe that I suppose that is your choice, but to me it smells suspiciously of defeatism. THat there is nothing we can do to change this.

Personally, I think that if we each take the time to talk to one person each day we can make a difference. I don't mean your family or friends or such, but if you are at Burger King, waiting for a bus, at the mall, or just out for a walk, take the time to stop and talk to a random person. They may not go for it, may think you are up to something, but most of the time you will see that they are willing to chat, even if for a few minutes. The human animal craves this interaction and the lack thereof is what I believe is responsible for the downward spiral we are witnessing.

OK... that was a lot more than I intended to say, but after re-reading, I can't really figure where to pare it down. This is merely my opinion developed by watching what we as a species have done over time, and a few psych classes thrown in the mix.
