I've actually lowed my OC from 3067Mhz to 3043Mhz recently because it's very hot this week, and it took 2 degrees off my max temps.. I never had a problem at 3067.. Surely it cant be unstable? Temps are beautiful, voltages stable as can be.

My bad luck streak continues :mad

these are the few posts I located on foldingforum.org

and as a side note when did the core base change on the -bigadv's? from a3 to a5? :confused
    rant
and I would like to add my thoughts to this again the -bigadv WU will not, does not, function for dual or quad core processors.
eight cores is my understanding with the possibility of a few gifted individuals using the 6 core AMD processors to receive the -bigadv WU's /rant

A5 was released around March 1st and I believe there were still a3's around for a couple of weeks while the changeover took place. As to the x6, one has to be running 'nix in a VM and OC that sucker to the max to fold -bigadv before the due time.

Agreed with 8 cores, easiest to do. One reason I didn't go with the AMD X6, maybe the X8 when it comes out, depends on pricing.

    Thanks LB,

I left my machine shut-down for the night so I could figure this one out. This morning I deleted the a3 core, work files, que.dat files and unit info files.

Everything seems to be back to normal. I even backed my OC down a little further to 3.03Ghz just to be safe. My RAM is running under-clocked (1333Mhz @ 1013Mhz) on a 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio.

What solution worked for you when you had this problem LB?

  6. lbmest

I never figured out what the solution was :confused, just backed off the OC and went on from there.

There's also just some bad WU's out there, if that's the case then Stanford usually credits the points folded to you if it's not your fault.

You've been going good so far so I doubt it's you Nico. BTW, don't UC your RAM as that never worked for me, who knows what's going on? Wait for the next update.:confused

I have no choice but to keep the RAM UC'd augie, remember how I said it's an Asus OEM board a while back? well, one of the main reasons why I'm replacing it is the lack of memory dividers. i only have the option to run it at 800Mhz with an 800 FSB, and then i OC'ed it up to 1013Mhz on both the FSB and RAM, and dropped my CPU divider to 12 from 13.5.

I also cannot change my voltages, but they are pretty stable, with a .03-.04v Vdroop at maximum stress.

Ok, well, I've had 2 WU's since that error. the first one went normally and received bonus points. The last one however only netted 552 points with no bonus :confused

I checked all my settings, and made sure the passkey was still entered in the config.

Why would I get bonus points for one, but not the other? :confused

HFM said it was worth 2100 points when it finished.

It may have just missed the deadline, I've had that recently happen to me. HFM just predicts, it's not the Holy Grail though it's close.;)

The WU was completed in 20 hours with a 3-day deadline :confused

I'll wait and see what happens with my next one tomorrow morning.

All I can say is bring it up with Stanford if it happens again. Save all your info elsewhere in case they need it and continue folding.

Hmmm, This last one was back up at 2052 points.

It doesnt make sense, and i have no idea whats going on, but as long as it's fixed, I wont complain :-D

The next one is predicted around 2250, which should be my best yet if nothing buggers this one up now.

C'mon folding gods, give me some love :-D

:grouphug :p:-D Bwahahahaha! That's why they call them advanced and betas, they need the extra TLC.;) I like your attitude man, you should see some of the venom that is spouted out over there, these aren't real donours, they're just points whores. It's the science done that counts.:confused

Talking about point whores, I should have a minimum of 140K by this time tomorrow!:p:-D

    140k? nice stuff indeed ;)

And to be honest, i find troubleshooting fun. if things always ran without a hitch, i'd probably get very bored :-D

Interesting, With my RAM clocked down around 940Mhz, I was netting about 1800-1900 points per WU (PPWU).

I dropped my multi a little more, and raised my FSB, and memory frequency to a little over 1100Mhz, but kept my CPU speed at 3.06Ghz because I still havent installed my new board yet. Now I'm netting between 2000-2200 PPWU.

It would seem to me that the faster you can run your RAM, the better it will be for your PPD.

I unfortunately cannot raise my FSB or RAM frequency any higher, or I get a "display driver has stopped working and has recovered" error. :confused

I'm guessing thats because something is being OC'd out of spec since i have almost no OC options on this board. It's not a big deal though, as it wont be in there for much longer :-D

augiedoggie The Canadian Loon - LocoAugie (R.I.P. 2012)

Remember, not all WU's are created equally, I can run a 2684 and almost miss the deadline for 63K or a 6901 for the same points but takes one less day, it's the luck of the draw and a marathon.;)

    On a completely unrelated note..

I just saw this GPU on the egg and I now know what I'm buying at the end of this month :drool

This will go perfect with my new board for this PC, and will go into my new build as well. I'm glad I didnt buy the cheaper GPU and waited, This thing will FOLD :-D

Yup, 10K PPD at stock or better! You'll just have to install the 6.41 client is all. I had mine up to(eVGA) 12k IIRC but I don't OC my GPU's anymore for the noise and heat, plus blown cards.:-o That dual fan config should keep things nice and cool.:major

I better watch out for you, as you just might come up and kick my ***!:-D

I see you have been doing as I,window shopping, since the core i7 is at this time out of my reach financially until next year (tax refund), I have located this GPU and will hopefully purchase within a few months even though I griped about the wattage usage of these devices and will also purchase a 750 watt power supply.

    super clocked

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130557&Tpk=N82E16814130557

    not super clocked

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130555&Tpk=N82E16814130555

the super clocked is less expensive go figure? :confused

    A GTX 470 in sheep's clothing!

thought I must admit the dual fans do look awesome on the MSI you have chosen! :major

I've also located a used co-op GTX275/GT250 GPU for 120USD at another forum, supposed to do 15,000 ppd combined, but also no funds no fun to be had.:-D

as I recall and please correct me if wrong the more Stream Processors the better?

Yup, quite correct there, more streams=more processing power. I'd personally stay away from strong GPU's for the same reason as you, too much electricity used and waste heat produced, of course if one lives up here and uses electrics to heat one's home it's perfectly fine but it sucks in summer.

Fold with the i7 CPU, best bang for the electric buck! I'm not going to replace my video cards when they blow up with similar one's as I don't game.

lol I wont be kicking anything until I get the 2nd machine up and running Tri-Sli with 3 GTX's. This machine will top out at 12kPPD roughly with a better OC and that GPU running hard.

Apparently those MSI's OC better than alot of other GTX 460's from what I've been reading on the OC forums. 1Ghz stable core speed on air has been reported and documented in a few places.

Yep window shopping, trying to make sure I get exactly what I want and wont be disappointed a week later.

Those EVGA's look nice, I was looking at them myself. they're a little tamer on the clocks than the MSI, but should perform pretty close to the same.
