What Kind Of Connector Is This?

    I have a DC-12V power supply that plugs into a U.S. wall outlet (100–240V—50/60Hz).

It is a model ADS-18E-12B 12018GPCU, manufactured by Shenzhen Honor Electronic Co., LTD.

Its DC output connector is a cylindrical female connector, with a black rim at the end like a Nokia 3.5 connector, but larger in diameter than a PSP connector.

It came with my Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive, model SRD0NF2, 4TB mass storage device, but it also can connect to my Fideco USB3.0 to SATA Hard Disk Drive Converter.

It’s convenient that it can also connect to the drive adapter, because the vender who sold me the adapter didn’t include the power supply like he was supposed to, and although he refunded my money and told me I could keep the adapter for free, he simply will not respond to my inquiries about what kind of connector the associated power supply has, doubtless because he doesn’t know and doesn’t care.

But I would like to know what kind of connector this is, so that I could get another such power supply, so that I could use the mass storage device and the drive adapter together.

Here’s what it looks like. Sorry about the poor picture quality.

Does anybody know what kind of connector this is?

Sockets come in all sizes. So do plugs. Name sounds like it came from a small Chinese company who bought spare parts wholesale to assemble adapters.

It is not just about the physical size and shape of the connector Also important is how it wired. Typically the shield (outer surface) is the negative (-) side and the inner connect is the positive (+).

What you need to do is inspect the power block itself. I should be labeled with the output voltage and current, and have a little image of plugs polarity.

called a barrel connector. " Also known as concentric barrel connectors or tip connectors"

    This is important.
FWIW Some years ago I was given a Lexmark printer without a power supply. I looked at my HP printer's power supply and it had the same rating. But, the polarity of the connector was the switched...

I think it's a barrel connector as someone also noted.

That's the "recommended" standard practice, but not universally adhered to in all countries - especially with low voltage applications where there is really no risk of shock or fire.

I do agree, it is not likely to see that specific type of connector with reversed polarity, but there are many other type connectors used on AC to DC power supplies where the entire exposed outer part of the connector is insulated. In any case, it is just plain good practice not to assume anything, and instead to ensure the polarity of any replacement connector/supply is the same.
