You think they'd evacuate the entire city center just for fun? There's a good reason they decided to do that ... 2 similar unattended bags in the city center. Plus one would assume somthing put the police on high alert in our major cities.

Plus, unlike some, our police generally don't release exact details to the media as soon as they get them, because its stupid.

Why would they tell you? Are you incensed that they didn't consult you before evacuating 30000 people? (CNN)

You just finished saying that the government you pay too much tax to should do a better job of keeping you safe. Well, voila!

Read "MONITOR, extinguishing privacy on the Information Superhighway", by SIMON DAVIES. 262 pages and published in 1996. Nearly 10 years ago. It will still frighten the pants off you. And things have got a helluva lot stricter/tougher since Sept. 11, in every country.

It almost seems to me that the natural rebellious nature of youth may be clouding your thinking a bit. Suspicious activity does not necessarily dictate a violent action...BUT...tell me...how may people died in London...in Madrid...in NYC when the towers came down. I don`t know about anyone else...and I`m not advocating racial profiling...but if more people were more aware...and more vigilant...(see the poster again) a lot of innocent people wouldn`t have been murdered in a most COWARDLY manner. Me...if I see someone of ANY race acting nervously, overdressed, and sweaty...leaving a package or bag anywhere...I`m going medievel on them and taking my chances on the legal system.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the govt. are protecting us (or trying), but evacuating people without telling them anything AT ALL is a bit much. There's something very wrong about these non specific terror threats. uncertanty leads to even more fear. the unknown has always been scary. If i worked in a city right now, i'd be a nervous wreck. I didn't swear by the way. honest ;p

Uncertainty vs Panic. Hmmmm, I'll take the uncertainty, in this situation. If the government told the public everthing they knew about the 'threat' you would have wholesale panic on your hands.

You have to remember that the more information a government gives about its intelligence, the greater chance there is that the source of the intelligence will be compromised. There are some very brave people out there, doing some very dangerous work, and I for one am willing to put up with uncertainty if that is what is necessary to protect them.

Don't have to tell me, I spent the better part of my day going over intelligence reports from various areas of the world. Some of the stuff in those reports would blow your mind; and every now and then I would read information about suspected/confirmed cells in my area.

Who knows if that ever even really existed in the way the general public may think? Having been in the military though...I understand profoundly the need for secrecy in certain situations.
