ok, be patient.....it's me mammageek, trying to learn from the best here at MG's mb. ;)

I was wondering what other anti-spyware program do I need to help thwart off the spyware junk?. I have Search & Destroy 1.3 and always check for the latest possible updates; plus I have Ad-Aware se (build 1.06r1) and do the same updates for this one. I have Earthlink and did a scan for my comp and they say that I have 5 possible removals of Spyware and I don't understand how many programs I need to get rid of this stuff. HELP!?!!!

it doesn't really matter what download location you choose,-but if you get a slow one try a different one :)

as far as what one's are compatible with what, I have had no problems running multiple spyware programs at the same time.
The only spyware program I have ever had problems with is a^2 (it slowed my computer down)

    good luck.

If you are using Spybot 1.3, you are out of date. They have been on 1.4 for awhile now. And I would assume if you did not keep it up to date, that other stuff could be out of date.

You should read and following the steps in the below thread:

:) Hello, you have given me something to read about malware. Here is #4, I have a question. I already clean files with the 'Internet Options' and a cleaner that is with my McAfee program called "Quick Clean." Is that enough? or should I still get CCleaner as you suggest? Thanks! Appreciate your help.

Yes, you should still get CCleaner, it get some stuff that "internet options" doesnt get. And it finds invailed registry entries etc, in its registry cleaner. Its a nice little program that is recommended.

mammageek in my opinion this program is a must to have on your computer:

    Spyware Blaster

    http://majorgeeks.com/SpywareBlaster_d2859.html

blocks known spyware before it has the chance to infect you... you don't even have to leave it running as a background process... just install it, update it, and enable all protection

Another great tool to go along with SpywareBlaster is SpywareGuard just check for updates and exit and it will just stay in your taskbar.

Yes :) Some people dont use spywareguard but it prevents hijack on homepage, prevents you from downloading bad files from the internet, and catches and blocks spyware before it is executed. It is also a nice program to use for extra protection ;)

Have any of you guys read the thread I gave you in message # 6 and noted what is in the list of software? You are mentioning items already included!

Read this again: How to Protect yourself from malware!

if it means anything, i saw it. i needed to read it over thoroughly, though. and had some questions about the same stuff you suggested. still new to all this stuff. thanks for your patience. your thread helped me alot.

    just to add though:

i have winxp, does it matter which desktop/profile user i intstall this stuff on?
sometimes i have noticed that if i install something on the administrator's desktop i cannot find it on the other ones. when i ran CCleaner i found that to be true. i want all this stuff to work on my computer as a whole and not just on the admin's desktop.

    many thanks again!

Do not install things to your Desktop. That is part of several reasons why we tell people not to put HijackThis.exe on the Desktop. It will not be available in other user accounts that way.

Some software can be installed and may even prompt if you want it installed for all user accounts.
Some software does not prompt you and just does this.
Some software does not install for all user accounts and does not give you the option to do so. For some of these, you can still just create a shortcut to the executable file on the Desktops of the other user accounts.
