What should I be looking for or wary of in a new monitor?

  1. Aside from the obvious factor of screen size.

I'm going to buy a new desktop, and they're mostly selling them without monitors these days.

If you haven't bought a new one in quite a while...

I hate to mention one website over another, but: I usually just go on Newegg.com, go to the monitor section, and sort the results by highest review. It's difficult to go wrong with a monitor that has hundreds of five-star reviews.

Stick with the better quality brands such as ASUS or Samsung, especially if you buy online without seeing the actual model hooked up on display.

Also, check the manufacturers' warranties carefully before buying. Most ASUS models come with a full three-year warranty that includes express replacement. Cheaper brands often come with a one year labor/three year parts warranty or just one year parts/labor.
