    Hi,

    PC: HP Pavillion t440d, WindowXp Home edition 32bit, 256Mb 400MHz DDR SDRAM Memory, 2.6GHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor with Hyper-Threading Technology, 80GB 7200RPM Ultra DMA Hard Drive

    Monitor: Acer H223HQ LCD Monitor.

    Antivirus Program: AVAST Home 4.8 Edition
    Firewall: ZONE ALARM Free Firewall

    I followed the steps in the Read & Run Me First.Malware Removal Guide but I encountered the following problems.

    Problems:
    1. When I tried to empty the AVAST! Virus Chest, I couldn't empty it.

    However, under Infected Files and User Files sections - no files listed. BUT, under System Files section - there are 3 files which I couldn't restore them. These files were kernel.dll, winsock.dll, and wsock32.dll [their original location were in c:\WINDOWS\System32.

    Everytime I tried to restore them, a report pop up with an error message saying "Action was completed with errors!"

    But I continue on to the next step to complete all the scans.

    2. Problem with ComboFix:
    After ComboFix finished scanning, the scan log appear but all the background of Window Explorer went blank - no shortcut icon and menu bar. I closed the log and turn off my computer manually. And then I started it back on again. to do the next scanning step.

    But the window startup took too long - it was more than 30 minutes.

    3. Problem with RootRepeal:
    When I tried to download RootRepeal application from the link in Window XP Cleaning Procedures, there was a window pop-up saying that there was not enough bandwith something like that all the time.

    So, I searched for it in Google and downloaded it from the download link http:\ad13.geekstogo.com\RootRepeaal.zip in http:\www.technibble.com and saved the zip file in c:\

    Next day, after I extracted the RootRepeal.exe file to c:\ and double clicked the file to install and run it, my PC crashed and restarted itself for a couple times. After that I deleted the .exe file and the zip file, and empty my recycle bin.

    Then, I went back to download RootRepeal from the link in Window XP Cleaning Procedures - I got it this time and there was no pop-up window like last time I tried to downloaded it from this link on the day before. I downloaded and extracted the file to c:\ and finally finished RootRepeal scan.

    Please advise what I should do next because I think there are some hidden infection in my PC still.

    Thanks in advance.

    Here are the first 4 of 5 scan logs.

    1. Please go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the following software:

    2. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    3. Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\rezumatenoi.dat
    c:\windows\system32\fscflist.ini.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\fscagent.ini.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\NowUpdate.exe
    c:\windows\system32\fscagent.exe
    c:\windows\system32\downengine.dll
    c:\windows\system32\clubboxuninstall.exe
    c:\windows\system32\clubbox.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\clubbo~1.url

    FileLook::
    c:\windows\system32\nod.dll

    DirLook::
    C:\WINDOWS\wt
    C:\System32\crc

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ModuleUsage\C:/WINDOWS/Downloaded Program Files/NowStarter2.ocx]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ModuleUsage\C:/WINDOWS/system32/NowUpdate.exe]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    4. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix.

    5. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!
