What should I be able to get from this -

    Athlon 64 X2 4200+
    Asus A8N-SLi Premium nForce 4

  2. ASUS

    ASUS MajorGeek

If your lucky maybe around 2.7 or 2.75 GHz
The x2 3800 are doing same
    Some do much less

Keep in mind your PSU & Memory are key components to successful OC

Get your self a DC Opteron 165 or 170 those are getting 3Ghz

Make sure you run stability test on both cores simultaneously (prime 95)

    cool thanks,

The other components you asked about -

    PSU - Enermax Noisetaker 12v Ver2.0 485W
    Memory - 1GB DDR400 Kingston Premium

    Remember nothings Guranteed

Enermax makes some good PSU, IMO your's is the minimum (485w) I would run Ocing or running a single Video card on a 64 system

Memory if OCing I recommend PC 4000, but you can always use a divider because what matters most on 64 system is max CPU MHz not memory FSB

Using pc4000 gurantees you of 250 FSB, some memory OC better than others.
The other thing important on memory isnt so much retail brand but the brand of memory chips used to make your Kingston preminum, some chips are more OC friendly than others, some require lot's of voltage which make Heat, some require less voltage & makes less heat

    Right I see thanks,

I've heard that some Opterons are very good, and that also the Core Duo's can perform well, should I wait for the K8L, or should I stick with my current rig?

what sort of rig would you recommend for OCing, are there any recommendations to my current setup you can give?

    I currently have -

    Athlon64 X2 4200+
    Thermaltake Golden Orb Flower II
    Asus Premium SLi A8N nForce4
XFX PCi E x16 Geforce 7900 GTX SLi
    160GB SATA 3GB/s
    Enermax Noisetaker 485w
    Kingston 1GB DDR400 PC3200
    Antec P180 Case

Matt you have a nice system, NF4 is proven solid & will be around for while

My next real upgrade, I'm waiting till next yr when AMD releases their new chip's, Intel's reign will be short lived the technology they have is maxed out:p

I have a similar system to yours I'll be working on/OCing over the next week
I'll post some info on it, maybe PM you with some info related to it & yours

    Here's what I'll be cooking

    Asus A8N SLI Premium
    AMD X2 4200
    Gskill pc4000/ddr500 2x1gb HZ's (Samsung UCCC)
    XFX 6800 Xtream 256mb
2 x 80gb Maxtor SATA probably run in raid 0
    Antec true 480 2.0
going to run dual boot x64 & XP pro or might even try Vista

    and the other
    DFI NF4 UT Ultra D, Modded to SLI, with a Opteron 146, 1.4 volts, 10 x 276 at 2760MHz, 2x1gb gskill HZ pc4000 (Samsung UCCC), OCZ 520 Powerstream

mattclayb, you got a nice rig. I don't know you'll be impressed with any AMD upgrade. Maybe a Conroe 3.5mhz stable combo. I'm still waiting for an upgrade. Mine is similiar to yours except it's gt sli.

ASUS, very nice setups. How far do you think a 2600xpm + abit kv7 + generic 266/333 ram will go on air? the kv7 is kinda limiting in terms of o/c's.
