What started this action

    I was downloading email and one came with attachments I was expecting.
    When I went to open it, I got this error message:
    C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Samsonite 030.jpg could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.

    I get email constantly with attachments, and have no problem opening them.
    Just to check, I went to an earlier dated email that has a jpg attachment, and now it will not open.
    I am not sure what "helper" this is referring to.
    Any help from here would be greatly appreciated

    Open Windows Explorer and click Tools, then Folder Options then File Type tab. Scroll down until you find the .jpg extension. Generally in XP, the default is Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. If you were using some other program, change to what you wish aside of Open with, click the Change button.

    The error message says that the application "does not exist"; does the 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer' exist on your system.

    P.S. what is your email client? Can you save the attachments to disk, then view them from there?

    Email - Mozilla Thunderbird
    Win Picture/Fax Viewer - Yes saves to disc
    yes opens from file, uses Win Pic/Fax Viewer to do so
