    Hello,
I don't work in I.T.. I'm not sure what is happening. I'm getting a port scan attack warning from my firewall every two minutes. It's getting kinda old...

The security log shows every scan as coming from the same IP address. It shows four ports as being scanned.

I have Windows XP, & up to date anti-virus & firewall programs. I've never encountered this before. What is it, & how do I kill it, Please_N_Thank You?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Well we can check your PC for malware by having you do all the instructions below the dotted line, but are you sure that it is just not scans being run by your ISP? What is the IP address that is being shown.

    ......................................................................
If you want to check for malware, please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    Hello,
Thank You for replying. It seems to have stopped. At least for the time being (?). My security logs were full of hits every two minutes, for days.

    IP address was 218.10.111.106
Four ports were always scanned. As I said, I am running anti-viral/malware/bad hair day software. Nothing gets picked up. I don't see why my ISP would suddenly start scanning me every 2 mins. Nothing was changed before this started. Thank You for your help w/this. If you're on a gurney one day/night, & look up to see a bald head staring @you. It just might be me. I'll return the favor.

Well I doubt this is your ISP since this address is list for China. I suggest that you follow the provided cleaning instructions just to be safe.

Are you or have you or anyone else been using any kind of P2P or torrent downloading?

Do you have router with a hardware firewall?
