Just found in my drawer. I've never seen anything like it.

On the package it says "Our extensive history in film coating and manufacturing provided the expertise needed to create ATOMM. This revolutionary dual-coating technology is the key to the superior durability of every FUJIFILM Zip 250 disk."

Well, all right, but WHAT IS IT????

That Aimee is a 250 meg Zip Drive Disk used for data storage. It's like an oversized floppy:-D However, to my knowledge, they aren't used anymore. As a matter-of-fact, I still have an external Zip drive in my closet that I haven't used in years!! So, unless you have a Zip Drive, that will be pretty useless unless you need a coaster!;)

Thanks. I'll just keep it for novelty.

No problem;) Actually, my curiosity would get the best of me and I'd like to know what's on it...if anything:-D

Yep, I have few redundant Zip Drives, sitting on shelves in the stock room someplace. Guess I should get around to checking them out rolleyes. ~ Anyone remember the Data Tape storage drives, (the ones for P.C.'s not the old Vic20/C-64 ones)? Now they were a pain to use.

I've got one of those too - except, unlike you, I know what's on it: old Science assignments. My teacher at the time gave it to me, and said it'd fit in a regular floppy drive. rolleyes Right.

I, too, have no way of getting into it. :(

I've got several of those in my parts closet - along with internal and external drives for them. I remember how cool I thought they were . . . so much storage on a single disk!

Heck, I've also got one or two old 5 1/4 inch drives stored . . . I really gotta clean out my closet more often!

I believe that is a zip disk as mentioned by others. You will need a ZIP drive (external or internal) to read it, and it was manufactured by IOMEGA. Threw away all my disks and drives because they were obsolete.

I have an external ZIP drive I'd be more than happy to part with if anyone would like to adopt it.

ACK! I'd completely blocked them out until you mentioned them!

Or, my personal favourite...punch cards! NEVER drop the stack of them holding your term paper!!!

the real old real to real tape drives or the cartridge tape drives?

I still have to deal with cartridge tape drives all the time and various companies still make the drives and tapes. The old real to real I can remember, but have next to no experiance

Yeah, the old 'Dataset' drives, as there weren’t any reel-to-reel tape cabinets for P.C.'s that I'm aware of ;). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tape_drive

The most annoying thing was, if some bit of data got corrupted, as it was/is sequential data, (which was very easy to do), the whole tape became unreadable, (also the dreaded 'shoe-shining' effect:(). Was considered very Avant-garde for the mid-nineties P.C. tech. Hey, at least you could fit a whole C.D. of data on them, (DVD's weren’t out, then). I still have dozens of tapes around somewhere. Bet I couldn't read any of them nowadays, even if I wanted to, lol! Oh yeah, and you need a very expensive, (at the time) SCSI card to run the tape drive. (I know companies such as I.B.M. and Quantum still use advanced versions of tape drive, but a P.I.T.A. for P.C.'s in those days).
