    I haven't upgraded in a while...
    Here's what I've got:

    MSI MS-6558 MOBO
    P4 Pentium (1.7 Ghz)
    128MB 5200FX GeForce
    1 Gig of DDR RAM

What would make the most significant difference?

    Also,

Can you put ANY mobo in a tower?

I like the amd 64 bit stuff.3200+ abit or epox board.Gigabyte also has a good board

For the most part most boards fit most cases.Your gonna want a good power supply.450 or higher

    2Gb of DDR RAM definitely...

Just kidding, I'd agree with Omegamerc. If you are a gamer, a new video card would be good.

Comparing "newer" GF "5" Cards with older cards

I've heard nothing but bad news from you guys about 5200FX cards, whats the deal? I've got a GeForce4 Ti 4200 which runs very well, and OC's well too, and runs UT2004 with around 40 fps @1024x768 most of the time which is fine for me. Why are these new cards so awful? I thought the FX cards were supposed to be "all that". Should i be recomending my friend sizjam to get a cheap radeon instead of a 5200FX?

    Fill me in guys!

Oh yes, not Hijacking, just diverting the flow slightly to aid your research :) Definatley video card is a good way to go.

A 5200 is nothing more then a GF MX with 'faster' ddram and dx9 "compatible" now with such a low end card do you REALLY need dx9? or can the card even support it in a high end games that req dx9? not really.... I think the best value card right now is a 5900XT for about 180-220$ OR a 9600XT for about 160$ They are both enthusiast level cards but on the higher end spectrum; and they both sport DDR + DX9 compatabilities. On the better note the 5900XT can overclock to 5950 Ultra levels with stock cooling so its your choice :) . The only recomendation im shooting now is wait 30-60days for the new cards to roll out and possibly the pci-xpress cards to hit the market in 60days too...THEN buy a nice high end card for half of what they cost now!
