Whats a good HDD diagnostic tool to use with my Toshiba and Hitachi drive?

    I have a Toshiba and Hitachi drive in particular the Toshiba DT01ACA300 and the Hitachi HDS723020BLA642 HDD models and I was wondering what is a good tool to use to check them? I think Hitachi has a HDD diagnostic tool I just don't know if my HDD is a support model for it the website doesn't give me a list of supported models so I can't tell if it's safe to use with my HDD and Toshiba doesn't appear to make their own.

    You can use Windows to check for errors by right clicking the drive. That's the simplest way without downloading various tools. The tools made by drive manufacturers have a lot of other options for configuring and even partitioning your drives but that does not sound like what you're looking for.

    Both WD Data LifeGuard and SeaTools work with my WD, Seagate, Toshiba and Samsung hard drives. You'd only be using the tools to diagnose the drives.

    I have used the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test utility.

    The test is reasonably quick and easy to use. The quick test is all that is needed.
    If you get an Exit code of zero, everything is fine.

    You will need a blank CD.

    I agree with mjnc. Though the other tools suggested work, the Hitachi tool is made by Hitachi for the Hitachi family of drives.
