It's best to check the reviews on Newegg or Amazon. Some cards have issues with certain versions of Windows, so it pays to read the reviews carefully.

You could also get a USB 2.0 or 3.0 USB hub (best to get one with an external power adapter if you're using a hard drive or DVD drive on it). This would save you the cost of having to replace your USB wireless card.

    Hope this helps. :)

Fortunately, networking technologies and protocols are straight forward, and fairly low-tech - meaning there is no advantage to buying this brand over that.

In any event, I recommend getting a card that uses external antennas. PC cases typically sit low, on the floor - typically that automatically adversely impacts radio frequency (RF) transmission and reception. Using a card that puts the antenna inside the metal shell of the PC case can further impact RF performance. Just make sure it supports 802.11n (or 11ac) for best performance and security.

So a simple Wireless-N, PCIe card like this should be just fine. There are some that cost less, but note they likely support 150Mbits/sec, not 300.
