Sometimes I'd like to save the information on web page, eg, info about a product.

I notice that if select page > Save As from the IE toolbar (if that's what it's called) and I save, the file type is *.mht When I open it, it appears in IE. My real question is is the page saved as I see it, or is it just a pointer or web address that is just accessing the internet for that page, and will disappear with some error if the web page is removed ?

(of course I could print the file to disk using a pdf printer or MS XPS to effective make a hardcopy)

    Hi,

MHTML, short for MIME HTML, is a web page archive format used to combine resources that are typically represented by external links (such as images, Flash animations, Java applets, audio files) together with HTML code into a single file.

    See here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MHTML

It should be a complete file that contains all the information.

My only experience with .mht files is from (Problem Steps Recorder) psr.exe in Win7. It saves screenshots of your actions during recording and saves the file as .mht file. From what I see, it is self-contained and opens in any browser. https://www.acesiowa.com/blog-artic...r-psrexe-the-coolest-things-since-windows-gui

If see you don't use Firefox, but I like this addon for saving jpg/png files of whole webpages. I use the option of Save Image of Entire Page.
It might be an option to install FF and keep IE as your default browser. Then just open a page you want to save in FF and use the addon. (Probably not worth the trouble for a few pages if you are happy with MHT, but an option if you want many files in a more familiar format.)

Thank you both for your answers.
-> Sach2: The first line of your response clinches it for me.

    New post - old topic

So, I've been saving a few webpages as *.mht files in Windows7 now (was using XP).

I want to save the page as I see it on the screen, scrolling down, with all pictures and sections intact, but without the necessity to click on pictures to zoom or click on links and expect them to work.

If I save as an *.html file I discovered (in XP) that I get problems if the page changes (is edited) or moves. Also I get an associated folder.

Lately, sometimes the complete pages have not been saving, only parts of them. What I have saved does not correspond to the page I was looking at.

Now, I don't care what type of fie I save, I just the complete page as I described above, in a single file. How do I do this ?

I have been in W7, selecting the cog icon at the TR of my screen, slecting file>save as, and clicking to open the save as box, entering a file name and choosing type as mht. BTW ctrl-s has stopped working as a shortcut to save as box
