I don't think so. I was pretty far along, but not super far. I was already out and about in the world and had done quite a bit of exploring. I think i was around lvl 20 but not quite sure.

I tend to put down a game when it irritates me, then pick it back up and wonder why i got irritated in the first place LOL

I'm going to guess it was the wolves then. Damn their high agility! :p

  4. lego126

Yeah the wolves sucked especially at higher lvls. That overwhelm sucks. The toughest bosses in the game are Jarvia, and the broodmother, also the cult of andrasta <(--spelling), if you make the wrong choices, that dragon is SUPER hard. I actually tried it a few times on easy, and just avoided the dragon all togather.

Bah. Jarvia was a piece of cake. Hit her with Mark of Death, go Invis and backstab her... done in three or four rounds :p

    Maybe on easy!! :-o
On nightmare she is brutal!, she goes invis, then backs behind the traps,...<<shiver>> I hated that bi&$h! I actually never beat her on nightmare, or hard, I had to turn it down to normal to get past her and the broodmother. But I do have the broodmother figured out I just didn't get to try her over and over.

I've heard alot about Batman: AA. Is it a good game? I've been thinking bout getting it, superhero games are just not my fix, but "if everyone's doing..." (<--The color of money- Then it must be work playing. As for magic the gathering... I just taught my daughter to play a few months ago. I've not played my self since Tempest, so I've missed alot of set. But her and I have been playing almost everyday. ;) We've getting back into it.

Well, it helped to have a couple of effective area DPS attackers in the group. Jarvia becomes much easier to deal with when you don't have to worry about her friends at all... ;)

I haven't tried it in a few months now, at leaast that fight, but I'm almost certain, that, I had a rogue, 2 war, and 1 caster. and still get my butt handed to me.

I am so hooked on Ansalon again. It's been up and running for over 14 years. I'll prob be playing this for another few months, and it's almost time to start coon huntin', and table tennis. And my little girl is playing it as well. She's having a hard time but still. It's nice to see a younger generation actually want to play a Text based RPG.

One thing that people prob don't think about, is the order you go in once you leave Flemeth's hut. My first go round I went to Orzamaar first, then mage tower, then Dalish, then Haven. so I was very low lvl when I got to Jarvia.4-6 Last couple x's thru, I went another route, I went Dalish, mage Tower, Haven then Orzammar last cause of the complexity of the entire underground caverns and such. So that time was a lil different, and I was a like 12-15 when in Orzammar.

  13. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

It's been a long while since I fought her... If I remember right, I had two warriors, a healer/caster and a rouge. It helps a ton if you use the stamina-sucking substance (soldier bane?) on everyone's weapons, since Jarvia's rouge abilities are what makes her so deadly, and when she runs out of stamina she can't go invisible or use her special attacks anymore. Cold Iron runes are your friends, leave Wynne's group regen ability on, and then I designated one tank to run back and defend her the moment someone targets her. Also, I did go to Orzammar last, so I was level 13-ish or so.

Okay, maybe it took more than three of four rounds... :innocent :p

    EDIT:
And unless you're a mage, go to the tower first and pick up the healer! Sheesh. :p

Batman AA is a blast, my only complaint is that it's kinda short. the challenges offers some great replay, the combat system is simplistic but fun. only other complaint would be the detective stuff. its really easy, not very challenging. if you're a Bats fan it's a must play, but it's still a good game by itself. when they made it they bought the rights not to a movie, but to the comic itself all the way back to the 60s (I think, may have been farther), so it definitely isn't the typical terrible movie game.

I got out of MtG years ago because it's such a money drain. sold my entire collection (over 4000 cards from beta to 9th edition) but kept one deck, my favorite Suicide deck. lots of little cheap zombies and life damage and creature and graveyard manip/control. :-D:-D

Did Orzamaar last and was lvl 13???? Hell, im not even done with half the game on my restart as a warrior and im already more than that level.

Then again, im anal and i do EVERY quest listed, every time i play LOL, squeeze that XP out!

Figured out that when i quit that mage storyline, it was because i got owned in frost peak without a save, heading into orzamaar. So, i was just being a baby i guess since i owned it this time. (and must have had it in the back of my mind since i was ready for it lol)

My problem/curse is im a micromanager and hate tactics slots.

So after playing Assasin's Creed 2 for a couple weeks off and on and really enjoying it..the game just started erroring out when I try to open it..says I need to have an internet connection to play when I clearly have a connection. I tried support which I have gotten no responce from.

At first I thought the internet required to play wouldn't be that bad until now. I purchased a single player game which I can't even play because it won't verify my connection..marrhhhhh

  17. Mimsy

Technically the game doesn't exactly end after you've finished gathering allies through your old treaties... And it had actually slipped my mind that I didn't do it very last. I did the last two thirds of the Redcliffe quest after I did Orzammar.

Make a thread about it here, we can try to figure it out. ;)

When I go through any game I try to do every quest and explore everything. However. After I beat the game (for the 7th time) I still haven't unlocked the achievment, Set foot in every area in the game. I'm not sure what I missed, but I did all the quest from the city, the littel broke down caravans and post -battle clean-ups. I have started back over on the expansion which lets you import your Origins char to Awakening, and advance their lvls all the way up to 30. First time thru Awakening, I lost all my eq. in the silverite mines, but I killed all the... things that had my eq. and got back everything except for my dagger for my main char.(rogue) Tooth of the Mtn. Father. I was already at lvl. 29 so I know I was close to the end, but I just couldn't bear it w/o my amazing dagger. ;) But I started over and this time I imported my Mage char. AND this time before I went into the Silverite mines, I took all my gear off. :major

lol yep, ubisofts DRM is fantastic isn't it, the only company to come out with DRM so powerful it even stops people who paid for the game using it :-D

I remember reading the major problems they had on release and ended up giving free games away for compensation, millions of them. So the question begs.... was the DRM really worth it or did it end up costing them 10 times the amount they would have lost to piracy?
I actually think it's funny, what they don't seem to realise is that something like 70% of people who obtain the game without paying for it, would not buy it if they could not download it. Yet they spend all this money and give themseleves such a bad name to fight something that cannot be fought.

Back on topic, currently playing through Mass Effect 2 again, great game.

I recently started working for a company and one of my co-workers, like me, is into PC gaming. The wonderful thing is he is about 15years older so has been enlightening me on the games of PC past.
I have started system shock 2 if anybody remembers it?
He has also leant me a copy of homeworld which I am still currently playing (I got through system shock quick enough)
*sigh* The amount of awesome things us youngsters have missed :(

Unfortunately I am not in the US :( I shall have to have a look around to see if there is anywhere that sells them in the UK though.
I just hope they can work on Win7! Even if it is adding to the amount of uncompleted games, classics will always be classic!

I take back what I said about being in the US. Gog.com is happily selling in the UK as well. :)

And anything they list as "compatible with Vista" works in 7. There's a list in their forums where the gog.com community has tested games and are listing what works and what doesn't, as well. :)

I've actually got that freaking game and still have the pic of code wheel, and still can't get it to play. Alot of those older game have that kinda thing. My first RPG was Secret of the Silver Blades. A forgotten realms game. To play it, you have to like look at word 6 on page 60. Secret of the Silver Blades was fantastic. Here are some pics of the files on my CPU. ;)

I got this when I downloaded it from DJ's old games, or abandoniaware. This is from Dark Queen of Krynn. It is a way to crack the code-wheel.

Funny you should mention Baldur's Gate 2... That happens to be sitting on top of my desk at home waiting for me to play :p
Me and my mate were seeing if we could get it to work co-op but to no avail :(
Still Diablo 2 runs like a dream, I just dont think it takes as many hours to complete. I hear baldurs gate 2 takes about 400 hours? It could have just been exaggerated but that is stuck in my mind haha

Cheers Mimsy, I will take a look at gog.com when i return home :) Will be interesting to see what else crops up. Bubble Bobble anyone?

No no. Not nearly 400 hours, but I sure wished it did. First thing I would do it crank up the difficulty to the maxxx to get the full experience. ;) You'll prob have to turn it down once you get to Bodhi, and some of the greater werewolves, but it's a fantastic game. I think I ended up with around 112 hrs it seems. It you like it, I'd recommend Neverwinter nights 1 all the expansions, then straight to NWN2. Avoid the expansions for the second one though. ;)
Another game with the same engine as BG2, is Icewind Dale, and Icewind Dale 2. Those are both great games.
One thing to keep in mind in BG2, is your casters. The absolute most important spells in the game will be, Spell pierce, Breach, Pierce magic, Breach, Ruby Ray of reversal, And the absolute best Spellstrike. Hope you get the idea, high lvl mages will be completely immune to any damage you can hit them with w/o the above spells. Make sure NOT to write every spell you pick up to your Spellbook. Try to save your spellbook, for the best of the best, cause space is limited. rolleyes And by the time you get up to be able to use lvl 9 spells, your book will be full, of useless Detect illusion and Polymorph self. As far as protection from the every present Charm, and dominate, the priest spell chaotic commands, is the best, it is however very short lived, so timing is everything. Negative plane of protection is the ONLY protection against level drain when your up against the Vamps and lycanthropist. I've went through it countless times, with countless builds, but no matter how you build you char, only thing that matters is the magic. The mages in the game are way overpowered, and can wipe a party in seconds. ;)
Good luck, and hope these tips help. Lemme know how it goes.

As you can tell, I really loved the game and still pop it in from time to time.

Sounds like an awesome game that shall be somewhat a challenge as the majority of older games are (this is a good thing!). For months I have played the likes of HL2, MGS, Mass Effect, Bioshock, DoW etc and just whacked it straight onto hard with no real challenges except for a few bits of course! So this sounds like quite a good starting point after the lack of health / ammo / psi that system shock seemed to put me through :p The fun you can have with just a wrench and strafing *sigh* good times!
Thank you for the tips and I shall keep you posted on how I get on and will most certainly look at those other games once I return back to the UK (In China at the moment!).
    I love games!

From an old timers view, and I've played a few. I enjoy Guild Wars, the use of skills are required here, some luck, mostly the ability to combine actions. There is actually a story line in here, kinda! Commitment to conquer the game . . . better stated as a long time. My grandson (17 and very impatient), beats most games in day - currently hooked on the Call of Duty games. He also plays Assassin's Creed, really neat game.

I am in anticipation of Guild Wars II, graphics allegedly are to be top rated, game play fast paced and challenging - NC Soft has been threatening release for over a year - maybe this year!!

    Cheers again Mimsy!

Guild Wars was good, I only had a quick blast of it but that was in a time I was done with mmo's (played WoW for ages and realized "There are games with a completable story that are awesome" which then ended me up with having more game time than i could ever want :p)
CoD series was always good fun for just a nice basic fps, give me guns, give me ammo and give me enemies and life is good! In game terms of course...

I'm about to start on DDO again. It's totally free for those that might wanna try it out. just gotta' download it. I've been playing it on and oof for a few years. That's Dungeons and dragons online for those who don't know. ;)
The way the free thing works, is some content is free, and some is exclusive you have to have DDO points to purchase. For instance some of the best quest in the game, STK, Grey moon, C06. Are available for purchase. But still yet, its worth trying out for everyone who is a fan, of Hack and slash RPG's.
I on Thelanis server for those who wanna come around.

I have DOA to get through :O just finished homeworld last night, I laughed yet loved the ending music which was:
    Yes - Homeworld (The Ladder)
Cataclysm to go! Anywho! I never did DDO, I am guessing its an mmo?
The first mmo I ever went on was LoM 2 I miss my wizard :(

yes DDO is dungeons and dragons online. At higher levels it just loses my interest as you can only solo casual stuff and that gets boring quick when your not in the mood, or just dont feel like grouping up. Also, the higher end content tended to try to funnel you into paying for stuff. And the graphics were meh, even in hi def.

Just started another try at a free MMO, Runes of Magic.

Its not anything ground breaking, plenty of group and solo content, you can Dual class, and crafting is interesting but could be tedious if you dont like to craft, which i happen to like doing. Its basically similar interface as WoW, graphics are stylized to japanime type characters, the world looks ok enough but a bit dated. I play on a pve server, though they still have guild vs guild content for pvpers and i guess its cross server wars between guilds from what ive been told by other players, have yet to experience that side of it.

I play it for now, holds my interest well enough, but not sure how long it will. And when ST Tor comes out, all bets are off as i am definetly subscribing to that game.
