Could say same for any foodstuffs! We live in a chemical world, even free range is not really free range if you take into concideration acid rain, the farming techinques, farmers are not here to not make money!

No benefit being veggie or meat eater really..... eat what you want and blow the concequences :)

Well, I don't like the hormones/anti-biotics that the meat producers use. I heard a few weeks ago the FDA was thinking of allowing one of the last anti-biotics for bacteria to be given to beef and what not. I don't think I'll 'hang the consequences'. My gf's father went into hospital a few days ago for a bleeding ulcer and got one of those resistant bacterias. I hope the last lines of defense are adequate.

If it wasn't for steak medium-rare I would be a vegetarian, It would take a lot to give it up, but I am sure if i visited were my meat was coming from I would be able to do it much easier.

Plus you always hear stories about meat processing plants-but I hope they aren't has bad has what i have heard :eek

What do you feed your plants, well, cow manure is a popular one. I would starve to death with no meat. But I do have some concerns about the 'meat factories'. What to do, I do not know. But damn, that steak was good...

Don't fool yourself into thinking that a veggie only diet is safer. Like Halo said, eat what you want and blow the consequences. And horror stories about meat packing plants are just that, horror stories. There is nothing out of the expected for such places.

Sorry to hear that Augie on your GFs father, and while I made light of the blow it all and eat what you want comment, it was made in seriousness and without knowledge for anyones illness, including that of anyone I know.

The over prescribing of AntiBiotics for common ailments has caused our resistance to ABs to desintigrate, I know from the depts here where I work that efforts are being hurridly pushed to create new or differing froms of ABs to counteract some of the growing mutations to diseases, Bacteriophages or Phage Therapy is one but its not widely used and needs constant change to keep up with mutations.

But on foods, one minute they say something is ok the next its not then they change their mind again, We should never have in the first place used pesticides, hormones or even fed in some cases cattle the ground up remains of other cattle for feedstuffs, what can we do as GOVmt doesnt listen, or are the ones as in that website first linked, causing panic to further their goals, I persoanlly dont trust both sides.

and no the last lines of defence are not adequate at all, one of the very last lines of defence in ABs Vancomycin has persistantly been over prescribed for common bacterial infections. Which from a lecture I was at the other week on blood and airborne pathogens has us buggered if something like a viral H5N1 or bacterial resistant infection hits the world, so its not just farmers who neeed to take note its the doctors we all trust too.

So if it is Vancomycin that the FDA are thinking of I hope to god they decide its a stupid idea.

I think it's 'cefquinome' as that's in the news now. Google 'fda antibiotic resistance' in the news and it's shocking really, maybe we're setting ourselves up for a huge cull of the human race as you say. As nature is wont to do, the strongest will survive.

Of course not, I should not have put that statement in in the first place but it was 'top of mind' ATT. I see we're on the same page. :)
