What's New With You?

Don't really know where else to post this, and to open a new topic seems too much.
Anyway, my uncle got euthanasia performed on him this past Monday after having suffered a stroke a couple of weeks prior and being left without the use of his right arm. And seeing as the only real reason he was still among us was to care for his lifelong partner who's suffering from advanced dementia, well, that was too much for him. It's got to suck to grow so old all your friends and acquaintances are long gone. All his relatives, including myself, live at least two hours or more away too, so we couldn't really support him either.
Tomorrow is the cremation. Not looking forward to it. Have to admit this shook me more than I expected. He was such a kind man. I'll miss him.

At the other end of this emotional spectrum, we will be receiving the keys to our new house next Monday. Which is a bit of a dream house for us. But not really feeling too much excitement for it now. Hopefully that'll come after tomorrow.

 

Sorry about your Uncle. We closed on our house last week! I am still working out of town until Monday.

 

Well, there have been "taboo" things in a multitude of faiths throughout time. Sin. Cardinal sin. Mortal sin. Prohibitions are as old as civilization. The only difference now, is the difference between the town crier; and the NY Post. On the interwebs. Just sayin'.

Going out on one's own terms is not overrated...

 

Of course, I, and my uncle used to, live in the Netherlands. Under very strict legal framework and a lot of different doctors agreeing, this is legal.

 

I'm really sorry to hear that. That kind of loss is brutal. If you ever want to vent, share a memory, or just distract yourself for a bit, I’m around. It's the 1 year anniversary of my father and mother's deaths, and it's been a weird and stupid roller coaster here too. I hope you can get back to feeling excited about your new home soon.

Coincidentally, if anyone is feeling like money is not the key to happiness, please send me yours so that I too can buy a new house. Thanks in advance.

 

It's not exactly the same, but when my dad developed double pneumonia last year, after inpatient rehab neglect following his brain surgery, he needed to be intubated. He left orders that if he did not improve or was going to need those machines to survive, after 10 days I needed to unplug him. Our joke was that I would unplug him to charge my cell phone. So I charged my cell phone.
