I am still using Windows 2000 SP4 (WinNT 5.00.2195). Can anyone recommend which win version I should upgrade to?

Either stay with Win2k (Good OS), or if your current machine is able to handle XP, that would be the only choice.

There aren't many upgrade options available!

You have Windows XP Home and Professional Editions. With pro, the main benefit you get over home is that you can join a domain, which most home users don't have. Home would be suitable if you have a small home network, or a standalone computer.

Windows Vista is in beta release. This means it is not officially out. There could be stability issues, lack of driver support (ie some devices may not work)... its really for developers and testers. I wouldn't tread here...yet.

Windows 2K is still a viable operating system. It still receives updates (and will 'til 2010), has few compatibility issues, and uses less system resources than XP. (ie XP will run more slowly on the same hardware)

If all you are looking to do is upgrade your operating system, then I would suggest you stay as is. I really don't think you'll see enough benefit to justify the cost of upgrading.

If you're preparing for future upgrades (ie migrating to a 64-bit system, updating hardware), then XP Home may be worth it for a small home network, or XP Pro for a business network.
