As the title says, what are the major differences between i7 cpus in the 1155 package vs the 1366 package. I know they require different motherboards, and the 1155 is dual channel wrt memory while the 1366 is triple channel. But there musr be something else that accounts for the price difference between them.

The Sandy Bridge is 32nm vs. 45nm so less power needed=less heat, clocked at 3.4 GHz stock can be easily overclocked to 4.6 or so on air due to it being unlocked, fastest thing around. The only bad thing is it can only be upgraded to 6 core and will be expensive I believe, same as 6 core 1366 which is around $1K a copy ATM. You got $300 then you will like it, it all depends on what you want to do with it.

When it comes to computer components, the latest and greatest is always prohibitively expensive. Give it 6 months and the 1366 bus CPUs will be the price the 1155 bus CPUs are now.

I hope you're right as I'd love to have hexacore but at the same time what am I going to do about my current i7 930? Going to take a loss there.:cry That's why I've only ever upgraded once, was an AMD Venice 3000+ to an X2 3800+ dual, best upgrade ever for me, like night and day. I won't see that type of improvement ever again.
