Whats the Difference?

I was just wondering whats the difference in a 350 small block and a 350 long block? I was offered a 350 long block 4boltmain for $350 for my trans-am but i am wondering would it even fit? My car is a 1984 Pontiac Firebird/Trans-Am came stock with a 305 High Output but someone swapped in a 350 small block with 350 turbo transmission. Is there a block size difference? Or is it just a displacement difference?:confused

 

I am not 100% but i believe the long block is just a bit deeper as the con rods are slightly longer giving more power at higher RPM and the torque levels are higher.

In theory it should go in but you may need new engine mounts and it could sit just a little higher in the engine bay it depends on the oil pan.

After doing a little more research my explanation is not valid in the USA.:-o

It seems that the difference is just what comes with the motor SHORT BLOCK no cylinder head and LONG BLOCK comes with the head fitted

 

That would be it. I always thought that meant a difference but it does not just that the heads are there or not there.

 

i believe you threw a piston and a rod right?is the block in good shape?

 

I want to know about the details of 1600CC vehicles so can you help me in this regard.
