    I currentley have a Geforce 4 Ti4600 128mb AGP4x card
plugged into my Asus A7V333 Rev 1.014 Motherboard.
    1Gig of P2700 Memory
    Althlon Xp 2 Ghz Cpu

I am looking to upgrade my graphics card to the fastest I can
    for the slot.

Does anyone know what the best card I can get for this slot is.

I have heard that I can't plug in AGP8x cards as they only require 0.8volts
    and my (AGP2.0) 4x slot produces 1.5volts.

So I would welcolme any advices, preferably a Nvidia card, but if and ATI
card is faster then I would love to know of one

    Best Regards

    probably this one here

    http://www.gainward.net/en/product/product_detail_p003.html

    gainward 7800GS
    (20 pixel pipelines on a GS !!)

there are strong rumours of a 7800GT, havent found one yet.
Will be very surprised if they ever make one bigger than that.

I have not looked up a price on the Gainward 7800GS, I scare too easily :eek

    I have a 7600GS 8x, running on a 4x slot (D850GB - intel board)
The card runs fine - that is not a guarantee, but I do believe they are backwards compatible.
Your best bet would be to choose the card you want, then check out the manufacturers specs and FAQs or email them just to be sure.

    Good luck

Wow thats fast, will that work????

Won't my slow 2ghz AMD CPU slow the whole shebang down.

1400mhz mem speed on the card sounds insane!!!

Why do you want to upgrade? Is it for gaming?

    Yes it is for gaming,

My Trusty Geforce 4 Ti4600 has served me well, but I am getting a new wide screen monitor for my machine and want to max out the graphics on GTR and
    Rfactor.

I am chasing Asus to find out if I can fit a quicker CPU than my Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0ghz)

My Simms can also take 3 Ghz of mem and I only have 1ghz so there is lots of room for improvement.

Want to get a card that is going to be quicker than GF4 but not really expensive. I have had a look on Ebay and alot of cards are going around the £20 mark for a 2nd hand unit which is about what I want to pay.

I have heard that all the Nvidia cards went on the FX range after mine was brought out so was looking for something with 256mb Ram and faster than the 300mhz chip on my GF4 and 600mhz of RAM speed.

Only issue I may have is that my power supply is only 275w.

256MB nVidia GeForce FX5500 8x AGP Graphics Video Card

Just seen the above for £20, is it any good???

    GeForce FX5500 GPU

    256MB DDR SDRAM / Memory bus width 128bit / Quad-pipeline Supported
    Card Type:
    AGP 8X
    Connections:
    VGA (D-Sub)
    TV-out (S-Video)
    DVI connectors
    Drivers:
WHQL-certified for Windows XP, ME, 2000

    Model Number NA-55000+TD21

    Package Type Retail

    Warranty 1 Year

    Chipset NVIDIA Geforce FX5500

    Interface AGP 8x

    Video Memory 256MB

    Memory Clock 200MHz

    Memory Interface 128-bit

    RAMDACs 350MHz

    Max. Resolution 2048x1536

On paper it seems slower than my Ti4600 as Memory and Engine clock seem slower than mine.

    Am I understanding this correctly??

    Seen these for sale:

    NVIDIA GeFORCE 6600LE 256MB AGP8 3D GRAPHICS CARD

Nvidia GeForce 6600 (128MB RAM) AGP Graphics Card

Nvidia GeForce 6800 Xtreme, (256 MB) AGP8X Graphic Card (I suspect this will get a good price)

    Inno3D 256MB 6200 AGP (nVidia) Graphics Card

There seems to be a huge difference in Memory speed between the lower 6200 cards and the 6600.

If I can only afford a 6200, will I still get a big performance upgrade from my GF4 Ti4600

thanks for all of you help by the way this is a real help, there are so many cards out there!!!!

Just got specs on 6600 LE

    6600 LE NV43 300mhz 500mhz 4 3 128-bit

Sounds slower than my Ti4600 (300 mhz 660mhz)

I also read that there was incompatibility with Althon XP chips running
VIA chipsests which My pc has, does anyone have any experience of this??

"In addition, motherboards with some VIA and SIS chipsets and an AMD Athlon XP processor seemingly have compatibility problems with the GeForce 6600 and 6800 GPUs. Problems that have been known to arise are freezing, artifacts, reboots, and other issues that make gaming and use of 3D applications almost impossible. These problems seem to happen only on Direct3D based applications and do not affect OpenGL"

That would suggest that the 6200 will all be slower too.

Because of the potential incompatibility with this GF6 cards and my chipset,
would an ATI card be a better option.

The ATI Radeon X800XT PE for example (not sure if this will cause power issues as no info on this card yet.
