what's the main purpose of logs?

I've seen a few threads which regard the same zero access trojan that's i've got.

now, when the majorgeeks help these members out, they ask for logs (as you all know, i'm sure)

my question is: do they ask for logs because the problem has yet to be solved? or do the logs allow the geeks, tim and jim, to write new code; other various geek stuff - which addresses the specific unique problem of the computer in question?

in other words, can I use the fixlist.txt file from someone elses post- e.g. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=261723 -to fix my own computer? or is this precisely why they ask use for logs? because they relate to the specific operations of the computer in question.

the answer i'm looking for is to this last question; if I've found that someone else has been given a solution to the same problem as mine - can I use the txt files or command prompts the geeks give them to substitute in my own troubleshooting?

    cheers

    Welcome to Major Geeks!
If the malware is on the PC, obviously it has not been removed. If that is what you meant. Not sure why you said solved. If by solved you were referring to having a program, like an antivirus program, automatically remove ZeroAccess, then the answer is there is no such solution. Antivirus/antispyware companies do not have fixes for these and many other infections.

Tim and Jim do not write code. All fixes are taylor made, by the malware fighters in this forum, to fix the exact problems an individual user has.

No! As stated above every fix is taylor made per case in question. While it is possible that you may appear to have the same symptoms, the solution for you and for anyone else may require different/additonal steps. Also, there is always the chance that following instructions given to someone else, can cause damage to your Windows OS.

thank you; for your response and for making me feel welcome!

you've answered my questions precisely. I'll be posting the logs in a separate thread if there still appears to be an issue with my laptop.

    cheers,
    Inky
