Im sick and tired of this horrible Vista OS freezing on my. The system is new i have 3 gigs of ram 500gig HD etc.. N it randomly freezes.. Mouse locks up etc... Im sick to death of it.. I play online poker aswell and I have taken a few losses lately because of this in having to unplug the power cord and reboot that way....

The only strange thing i notice where it might be linked to whatever is causing this is that no matter if its a fresh reboot or not the Recycle bin doesnt work properly.... When i throw something away the icon fills up with trash but then when delete the trash it doesnt go back to empty... It seems like what instigates the freezing is too much activity within using Windows utilitlys/programs..

open folders, using windows media player etc... I can leave it on and unattended over night and hours at a time and if im lucky i can work it for a few days but if im working on it for hours consistently it always ends up happening. N when it happens sometimes its really bad!!! 5-6 freezes in like 4 hours.....

So basically after doing research I hear that this is usually caused due to Vista having issues with it's registry. I need a effective free program or whateva to try n solve this problem....
    thanks..

Vista is not inherently 'bad' or 'buggy', and does not 'have issues with its registry'. There's something else going on. Pulling the power plug on a regular basis isn't a really good idea either. It's a good way to damage your PC and operating system. Running a 'registry fixer' isn't going to fix your problem (in my opinion). The only thing most registry 'fixers' do is scan for dead links, unused entries, and other 'dead wood'. These things generally cannot be the cause of consistent freezing. The first things I'd do is run some general maintenance type of programs (read this). Then run some in-depth diagnostics on your hard drive and memory; the hard drive diagnostic can be downloaded from the drive maker's web site (not the PC maker's web site); memory diagnostics can be downloaded here at Major Geeks (I like this one). If all that passes 100%, then run a check for malware (viruses/spyware). After you've done all this and still have problems, let us know and we'll move to more serious and exhaustive procedures.

Everything up till the Memory diagnostics i do on a regular basis, CCleaner, I don't have unused or dangerous programs etc... This PC did this prior to having NOTHING on besides the OS!
When that happened I just put a brand new HD in it anyhow just to eliminate any BS. LOL @ you saying Vista doesnt run buggy or bad...
I ran prior os's for years with non of these types of issues... Then ran XP for a good 4 with nothing of the sort besides Malware due to my own beligerance. Prior to owning a Vista OS i only heard negative reviews all the way from here to Europe when i was over there on Vacation.
My cousin owns one n it was the first time i experienced the OS first hand n while it looked "cool" functions etc... it seemed/felt very heavy along with standard programs not operating well, always asking for permission to open proggys you use everyday and asking to install things the system already had.... Other than that i left it to be a thing of choice/preference.

Anyhow it was time for me to get a new system i said hell, I'll give it shot, I got Home Premium, nice size HD decent ram etc... Here i am 4 months n still dealing with this aggravation! Its BS and i know it's the system itself and not malware or anything related.
I don't go downloading randomness and when i got my standard programs like in the past on XP etc.. such as Aim, Divx web player, winrar, etc.. I got them all from their official sites. I run CCleaner, I have AVG latest, adblocker on my Firefox and i do regular basic maintenance on a biweekly basis give or take.

I will try this memory thing you speak of rerun CCleaner etc... I will do a defrag aswell before i go to sleep, I assume that process takes some time n then we can go from there...
My next step will be to really test and see if indeed it is the OS and downgrade or should i say upgrade ;) back to XP for smooth sailing.

    Hi

For everyone that has issues with Vista, there are those that equally do not and for me I have had Vista since Nov06 and on 4 PCs of mine personally have had no issues, also to same token their are those that have no end of issues with XP, its all different milage for different folks.

If you had issues with Vista, with no additional software installed and you do mean none? not even an antivirus etc, then I would start looking at hardware and drivers and make sure they are all upto date, as well as being the offical ones from the motherboard maker only, dont install ones that are unified from the OEM, at times these can cause issues as the motheboard make generally specs them differently.

So what hardware do you have? (full names and models)

    CPU
    RAM
    Motherboard
    GFX Card

Any yellow ! marks in Device Manager, if so what next to?

Are you at SP1 with Vista?

Dont mean this to sound rude or off, but have to ask is your Vista legit one? reason is many who have issues similar are in the main running hooky copy of Vista and when updates from MSFT are installed it causes performance gripes as many files have been changed... again dont take this the wromg way as I just wish to help you get to the cause of this and sadly this is one cause.
