whats thte difference

hey to all,i have a question about cpu's, what is the difference between amd and intel, i see sometimes that people talk about the speed, that even tho an intel chip has a faster process speed or clock time, the amd are still faster chips.i dont understand. can anyone spend a little time and explain the difference for me.
