Can anyone tell me why using Vista I am getting 1.82mb transfer speed on my 2gb USB flash disk that is USB 2 and my USB ports show Enhanced PCI to USB controller in Device manager.

    Can anyone explain this?
Surely transfere should be faster than this, I'm sure it was on my XP system.

This is just moving 600mb of music Mp3 files...

    Thanks

I might be wrong, but I think that USB 2.0 speeds are up to 480 mbps (I think that's megabytes per second, or is it megaBITS per second?)....

Is this a new computer with Vista pre-installed or did you upgrade to Vista on an older computer? What other hardware do you have in the system? If it's an older computer you might have a mix of both USB 1.0 and USB 2.0, but that's not likely unless someone added a USB 2.0 pci card to a motherboard that had only USB 1.0 native support. How many USB slots does the system have and do you get the same slow speed no matter which USB port you plug the flash drive into?

Have you tried the flash drive in question on another machine to see if it's actually USB 2.0? Could be it was mislabelled/sold as USB 2 but it's actually USB 1. Try the flash drive on a known USB 2.0 equipped system to make sure the drive itself isn't the source of the problem.

Beyond that, do you have any programs installed to run off the flash drive? If so, have you scanned the flash drive itself for viruses and malware?

mbps is "megaBITS (not bytes) per second" -- capital "B" (mBps) would be megaBYTES per second.

I was running XPpro sp2 before I upgraded to Vista and bought a new flash drive at the same time.
My mobo is USB2.0 and has run USB2.0 flash drives and my scanner before with no problems.

Yes I have scanned my drive and it is clean.

I have not tried my flash drive on another system yet but I will do that,

Thanks for the advice Eezak and the link LBMEST

    Respect guys :cool
