Last time I tested it was 121...my wifes was 125...mine might of been higher if I didn't party so much in my youth....oh well.

I've never done that test. Is there an online place to do it (a legit site). I was smart once but now I'm not so sure...:)

I took four legitimate IQ tests when I was in school, but my parents would never let me know the outcome because they didn't want it to influence my life. Seriously. I have NO idea if it was because I had a very high score or a very low one...

I have taken a couple of online tests (which are flaky, unreliable, and not even close to a good measure of reality) and pretty much always land somewhere between 125-150.

The most common one given in school I think is Wechlers Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised. It has a nice bell curve with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. And they compensate for age. So, if you have an IQ greater than 130 you are in the top 3% of the world.

The ones given online really aren't valid because there are a lot to things they just don't measure.

I have never actually taken an IQ test.

But it must be higher than 100... :):):):)

I just took 2 different online tests. One was 137, the other was 138.

    Morning all, happy Sunday :)
I wonder if I can go to our high school and they can give me one? Didn't do that in NZ when I was at school. I was pretty much a straight A student, so must have had brains back then :). Actually, could be a genius, we all seem to end up here lol.

    Right then, where's the coffee?

Looking at the posts I must be pretty average among the geniuses. In my prime between 25-40 it measured (Mensa) of 138 Last year due to ageing and delapidations it fell to 128. You could say I lost a bit.
Damn now where the hell did I put it!

I dunno, in school I was put in the "special class" and they took my IQ
They said I was "above average to superior" , Whatever that means? nobody told me a number. . .
I keep getting a pop up to go to Tickle, I guess I'll do it now. . .

Don't believe in them. A person's intelligence cannot be measured by a single number.

See the Book: The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen J. Gould

I refuse to allow my son to take IQ tests - I already know he is smart and capable, and so do his teachers. I hate labels.

Dunno. We got the normal tests in school, where they never tell you the results. I always did good on school, but not head-of-the-class, and teachers were always telling my parents at conferences that I could be doing better. Learning always came easy to me. It came much tougher to my sister, but she put a lot more effort into it, and generally got better grades than me. She also stuck with schooling through her PHD. Raw intelligence is a factor in life, but so is determination and focus. The first without the second yeilds poor results.

That said, Omni magazine ran a Mensa qualifying test sometime back in the 1980s. Huge test split over two issues; to large to put it in just one issue. I took it out of curiosity, and passed it.

But my sister is the "doctor". ;)

  23. goldfish

    goldfish Lt. Sushi.DC

Well that said I did do a test from Mensa (like, I sent off for one) and they said I could join Mensa if I wanted to, without giving me the score. But I don't want to be associated with those ...... kinds of people ;)

Okay, my false pride was so inflated by reading the posts of IQs on a "geek" site that I had to register just to respond to this poll.

I am not quite sure where I lie in the scheme of things. My most recent IQ test had me at 155. All this at age 45 after some really bad habits in life.

I started smoking cigarettes in the first grade, started smoking pot in the 7th grade, and took every recreational drug on the planet by the time I was 19. I got really strung out on amphetamines when I was in high school and cocaine when I was in my 20s.

But I can still bend spoons - by accident, even. (This happens when I don't keep up with my wife's habit of dropping silverware into the garbage disposal.)

On a more serious note, knowing one's IQ is a double edged sword. Once you know your IQ, you must ask yourself if you are living up to your own expectations of someone with that IQ.

For example, I did not graduate from high school. I had a problem with authority and boredom that led me to either dropping out or being invited to leave. I suppose my drug use didn't add much to the situation.

But I do run a company with about 250 employees. I do wonder what my life would be like if I had taken a different path. In all modesty, I do think that I could have amounted to a lot more.

My point is that knowing that you have an IQ that is above the norm doesn't necessarily add anything to your life. I personally have many regrets over some of the really stupid choices that I have made and wonder if I would be more tolerant of myself if I had an IQ of 85 or 90.

One other thing worth pointing out is that there is also a positive correlation between IQ scores and suicide. The trite old saying, "ignorance is bliss", has more merit than most of us may know.

Find me a happiness test and that would be a test where high scores would impress me much more than an IQ score.

i could not agree with you more joeyP3 .....except the bit about IQs being somehow relevent to our life choices. sh*t happens TO us and AROUND us that we have little or no control over. you are by nature the result of circumstance. i have worked a great deal with people that have "issues" lol and there is no more corrilation between intellegence and recklessness or depression than there is to cancer. stop beating yourself up hon. sounds like your doing just fine. aloha. laure

IQ tests are just a novelty to me. It is definitely not a true measure of self worth. I've seen talent and intelligence squandered because it came too easy. The other side, I've known people who didn't rate high on IQ test put in determination and focus achieve well in their lives. To me it only adds up if you can meld IQ with common sense and logic, plus the heart to pursue goals. Numbers are just that, numbers....it's what people choose to do with it that matters.

    Ok. True story.

In High Shcool, I had to take one, and scored 161. The online ones I've taken were between 135 and 150.

I actually declined mensa also. they required 130 and still wanted me with a 128, probably so I could make them all feel superior.

In High School I took the ASVAB and scored off the hook, that was before the hard partying, wouldn't have missed it for the world. I think some of the intelligence is intuitive and not academic.

Results from the Tickle online IQ test are 129 (shot attached.) Does everyone get the "Insightful Linguist" thing from these people? BTW, that's down from 138.5 in my prime. That's what age and neurosis can do to your IQ, I guess... Still, I don't put much faith in these tests but they are fun. I haven't taken the Tickle Happiness Test yet (I know the results to that one, LOL!)

    Peace all,
