When Add/Remove does work?

Short version: I want to remove a program, but when I try it windows add/remove says: "An installation support file could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified."

What now?


Details: I recently upgraded from Scientific Workplace 5.0 to 5.5, but left the old version on my computer because I wanted to be sure I preferred the new one first. I did, so I uninstalled the old one using win xp add/remove program. no problem. a day or two later I ran system restore for other reasons and skipped back to a point in time when I still had SWP 5.0 intact. I tried removing it again but got the error message above. he prog is just taking space on my hard drive so I'd like to get rid of it, but how?

just ran ccleaner. it didn't work. same error message. any other suggestions?

By the way, I took a closer look at SWP 5.0, the program I'm trying to remove, and it doesn't work anymore (missing files issues), though a lot of it is still there, included a start menu link and a folder with lots of files under program files. I guess I could just delete them manually and remove the entry from add/remove menu? but what about getting it out of the registry?

 

Try reinstalling the program then uninstall it.

 

Have you tried reinstalling SWP5.0 again and then uninstalling it?
