where are my cookies?

Where are they stored on my pc? when c drive is open on "my computer?

I'm running windows xp. Also, where are sites I've visited stored? if of course I've chosen not to delete them at the end of a session.

That's where mine are, windows Vista.

 

May have to uncheck "Hide hidden files and folders".

 

I've looked in all the obvious places mentioned and don't find'em. How can I search for a cookie? what is the extension? like say for yahoo?

In XP C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Cookies

will need to make files visible first.

This cookies folder is only used for IE. Its default contains just one file Index.dat whose size is 16K. Cookies extensions are just .txt.

However, it is my clear understanding that cookies are also stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

TIF is also IE based only.

I seldon use IE now except on a couple of sites as I much prefer SeaMonkey or Opera. If you prefer IE then you could create a RamDisk drive and move the default locations of both the Cookies folder and the TIF to the Ramdisk.

The end result of which would be that your Cookies and TIF folders would be atomised on any shutdown or reboot and rebuilt anew without any need for maintenance.
