It went by very fast. All I did this weekend was take it easy. you'd think it would drag by nice and slow. Hope I remember to set the alarm clock tonight for work tomorrow, lol.

No, you are definitely not alone. I spent my entire weekend removing malware from my computer... GREAT way to spend the only two days of freedom I get every week! :crybaby

BUT I did manage to go see a friend's band play for a couple of hours last night, so it wasn't a total waste.

I agree. We look so forward to the weekends, and theres always so much goin on that before you know it, its Sunday evening and your at the computer telling everyone how excited you are for next weekend. And we all know it...."Everybody's Workin' for the Weekend!" lol ;)

THat is one benefit to my schedule. I work 3 days on and 3 days off, so my weekends happen more often and last a bit longer than most. If I stay up when I get home on day 3, it is like adding another day to it and if I am up all day for day 1 (OK, I work nites) it gives me all sorts of free time (of course when I get home in the morning after 'day'1, I am exhausted from being up for 24 hours or so)

Same here, thats why I don't know week day from week end. I imagine retirement would be great for the healthy, wealthy won't add the wise.
Good luck to you on your recovery.

    especially for wayne then...:)
    1) this is the back corner. the spiky looking v-shaped plants in amongst the ferns are wild orchids (i think they are called 'bamboo orchids). that is what will be blooming outside my temporary bedroom window.
    2) this is a different orchid. i don't know what it is, but we will look after it. :)
    3) a bedroom! the four men constructed that whole platform on saturday. the stairs need to be redone. (bruce ran out of wood so they are just temporary). when we build the house we will use the platform for a 'gazebo'. (i don't really know what a 'gazebo' is!! but hubby says its a platform with a roof)

    much aloha

'necessity is the mother of all invention'. we are quite literaly on the side of the volcano. there are two types of volcanic rock, both of which take their name from hawaiian - a'a (pronounced ah-ah) and pahoehoe (pa-hoy-hoy). a'a is sharp, honeycomb rock; pahoehoe is smooth, denser, rippled flow. we have the honeycomb. this is good in some ways as it breaks down easily and things actually grow on it as it holds water but drains. however one cant pitch a tent on it!!

this is a'a. this is the cess pit excavation. i intend to turn this pile of rocks into a koy pond. :) (sp? koy carp look like big goldfish)

    and yes....the orchids are wild.

Reminds me of my days up on the west coast of Scotland when we had croft re-building parties west (yes, I said west) of Ullapool on Scoraig to develop an independent and self-sustaining community there. Good times :)

lev - that sounds like a really cool experience. quite a bit colder i would imagane though. any 'tips' you can pass on??
fortunately we have a lot of friends eager to help. a lot of beer and intermittent 'smoke' breaks also helps! the next stage is to cap the cess pit, put a roof on the platform, set up temporary water catchment, and to haul a cargo truck and a small container on to the property. i will then use the cargo truck as a bedroom and the tent as living space out of the rain and/or sun. it IS fun, and i can only re-iterate how very blessed i am.

Don't you remember when you were a kid, when you were having fun it passed all to quick, and when you weren't it dragged all too slow.

We were just training to be adults, see?

It was an awesome experience...I should scan some photos in as it was pre-digital days.

Tips? Keep your workforce well fed and skinny-dipping after a hard day's labor is compulsory to unwind and get clean, so you can all work closely again the next day ;) Beer and smoke breaks help. We had to float across the open sea loch tractors and all supplies...that was fun...nearly lost one when the wind picked up. Don't forget to sit back and admire your surroundings and remind yourself exactly why you are doing what you are doing. Celebrate each stage that gets completed. Communal back massages for the aches and pains are a must ;)

Actually, weather wise we hit a really good summer and it was totally baking, which was great for cement drying out. I've never seen Scotland like that since. Do you get midges in Hawaii? Man, those were the hardest thing to cope with, especially coming out of the loch after bathing...they would stick to you LOL

Yippie Friday night, stopped working gonna try to make every second count! What do you think will make my weekend seem longer, early to bed and early to rise or late to bed late to rise?

  27. laurieB
