I have an older laptop and it has data on it I want to access easily, so I want to put it all on a big jumpdrive
The problem is my old laptop(windows 98 or XP?) has no USB port
    what is the solution?

    Hi

Does it have a Cardbus/Express slot? as you could add a Cardbus/Express USB device like these HERE

Does it have ethernet? if so maybe network it to another PC?

Is it Win88 or XP, need to find this out, as solutions maybe for one or other Windows version, networking is easier in XP for instance.

I dont want to network it, I want the data off of it via a jumpdrive or transfer the few gigs of files on it to a different computer

I need a site, like http://www.idrive.com/ to park my files? or is there a better site??
    thanks

If the old notebook has an Ethernet (a.k.a. RJ-45 or networking) port, you can use a crossover cable (about $6-$10). The two links below are to Microsoft threads on how to do this going from an old PC running XP XP to a newer one running Vista/Win 7.

Note: If you want to transfer files only, create a documents folder on the newer PC called "Old PC Stuff," than drag/drop the "documents" folder from the old PC into this folder on the new PC. In the event you have files with identical names on both, it will keep both since they're not going in the same folder.

If you have other data on the old PC outside of the "Documents" folder (Outlook or other e-mail files, address books, Quicken, Turbo Tax, iTunes, etc.), double check the software support website to verify where the files are stored (example: Quicken usually stores files in a sub-folder named "Qdata" in the main Quicken program file).

Use Windows' "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" only if you want to make the desktop, browser favorites and files identical to what they were on the old PC. If you only want to transfer selected items (such as your favorites in IE or Mozilla), read the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard for help on how to do this. Also note that Files and Settings Transfer Wizard will not transfer data or files from most third-party software such as Quicken or Turbo Tax. This must be done manually as noted above.

If you have any private data (tax records, bank statements, credit card #s, etc.) on the old PC, use a secure data shredding program to remove them before you sell or give away the old PC.

Finally, once you've made the transfer I would run full drive scans on the new PC using Malware Bytes:

and your anti-virus program just to be sure no nasty stuff was transferred by accident.

    Hope this helps. :)
