Where to start? ; Software programming.

I would simply know where to start learning , links etc.

 

well, what aspect of software programming do you want to focus on?
Other than that I would start with programming basics (language agnostic) things such as, what are variables, types, classes, objects etc..

I would say, once you have a focus, then pick a langauge and you can learn about those items above while you're reading etc.

 

What do you mean by what aspect?

 

web software, desktop software, windows or linux
..
Shrink wrap software or custom software are other things to consider.

 

I dont know that much about software , but im thinking of designing Windows Desktop software.

 

ok, if you're desire is to develop desktop software then there are lots of languages you can learn.
.NET
C/C++
Java
Delphi
VB6 (predecessor to VB.NET and being phased out)
etc..

I'm partial to .NET because you can make programs quickly but it is still a very object oriented language.
Ok so you've chosen a path if even on a temporary basis, take a moment to read the sticky thread at the top of this forum and you can kind of get an idea of what language to ask questions about. We need to start someplace but all the language I listed are what is called Ojbect Oriented which means that they use Objects to represent real world types. Objects have methods and properties just like any real world object... a house is an Object, it's method is to house "things" and it's properties are.. it has doors, windows, siding.. etc..
