    Hi

Do you get any error messages whsn trying to open a cd or dvd, if so what?

Is your cd drive visable in Start> Computer?

If not the try the below:

    1. Open Device Manager and uninstall the cd drive, then reboot as drives tend to use the inbuilt driver
    2. Run this guide to delete the upper and lower filters http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=145532

    Hi

No probs, its a common cause of loss of optical drives, can stem from installing multiple apicatuons that have burning options. Weird that it was a wordprocessor, but glad all is ok now.
