which diognostic tools to get

Hi,
I was directed here from another tech place. I am wanting to know what kind of diognostic software / tools would be good to have to fix anykind of problem with your computer. I've been dabbling a bit here and there and have taken some classes on repair, but none on the kind of software I need or where to get it. Can you help me figure it out??? I'd like very much to fix my own computer and maybe eventually do more.
