Which is the best Antispyware defender?!?!

i have spyware on my computer and i need to find a way to delete it. i want to purchase or download a program to do it but every time i find a program, something tells me not to download it or how it's bad or what not... i don't know what to do. my computer is freaking out and not to mention i completely suck at computers.... i need major help

can anyone recommend something or help me find a way to delete the spyware.

not to mention but random pop ups keep showing up even when my internet isn't on.... something is definitely wrong.

also i was going to buy Webroot spy sweeper, but then i found this PC article and these forums saying how awful it is and well all this computer stuff is making my head spin.... please help....

As you work through this, you will find you are already getting some help with the symptoms. hey i was doing the instruction u told me to do in run me first and well i downloaded spybot and every time it would get to the deleting the viruses it would freeze. also i can't use my sound anymore.... is this a side effect?

but so far everything been pretty good i haven't defraged yet... as well as my comp is running alot faster... so thanks for that

umm i was wondering about something.... what is c:/windows/shell.exe because everytime i start up my comp it says it can't find this file... is this important and what does it do?

Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you. It's been very hectic here. The message you're getting is related to malware. Please go ahead and run through as many of the instructions as you can in the READ & RUN ME and attach the logs it produces with your next thread. Spybot will sometimes get stuck in one place. I've known one poster who left it for several hours and came back and it had finished. I'm not sure why that happens, but when an anti-spyware tool doesn't function correctly, it's usually due to malware. If you think this could be related to your sound problem, please go back to the restore point just before you installed spybot and see if your sound comes back. If so, then continue with the instructions, but leave Spybot out. I've never heard of a sound issue in connection with Spybot.

that's ok.. i'm glad u got back to me anyway... well see here's the thing i called the computer guy from dell and he tried to help me restore my computer... but it wouldn't let me change any of the months or the year and would only let me restore up till jan 10th and so i did that but my sound is still gone i think it's b/c of a malware problem or something... and everything seems to be working alot better... except my computer keeps telling me programs are missing and i really don't know what these programs do... but i will keep going with the run first thing... i'm still letting my comp recover after everything that has happened... but hopefully it will get better... thanks a bunch
