I need help deciding which mb and processor to buy.

pc will be used pretty much only for gaming.

dont need to be on the forefront of technology or anything, just powerful enough for todays new games and and new games to come.

I want to go with AMD.

hoping i can get away with spending $200 or less on the processor, and i just want to make sure i get compatible mb and processor.

    thx for suggestions.

many of these mb's say they support 4 GB RAM, they have 4 slots.

I only see RAM sticks avilable up 512 mb.

How can u get 4 gb in 4 slots then?

I've just built my rig with an XP2400 chip and an ASUS A7V8X-X these two items cost me £85 (about $160). If I was less of a cheapskate, I would go for an Athlon64 and an MSI K8N neo platinum.
You can go for the 939 series kit but the chips cost a bit...

for $200 i would definelty go for the newly arrived Athlon64 3200+ socket 939. that will give you a very good processor, and plenty of room for upgrading in the next year or so.

just be sure you get the socket 939, as it supports dual channel RAM as well as other features that the socket 754 version lacks.

    I said that 939 chips weren't cheap!!!
I got my stuff searching through 'MicroMart' (UK weekly magazine).
Best thing to do is set your maximum spend and not go above it. ;)
