Which processor for me?

    Hi there,
I'm buying a laptop and find a lot of Vista laptops with these processors:
    -Celeron M 520 1.6GHz
    -Celeron M540 1.86 GHz
    -Celeron-M 1.6GHz
    (all are 533MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache)
    -AMD Sempron 3600 2GHz

    My needs are:
    -basic net duties,
    -copying photos from digital camera
    -maybe some DVD playback

Are any of these Celerons unsuitable for my needs?
I would be replacing Vista with XP for this - are any of these unsuited to running XP?

Also, does "DVD Super Multi / Double Layer" mean that it can burn DVDs?

Heres a link to the laptop that looks most promising (based on price)

    Thanks,

The link does not work, it goes to their website but does not go to a laptop. What is your price range? I like reading the reviews at www.newegg.com as a starting point and price referance.

I'm surprised there weren't any Centrino Duo CPUs on your list.

    Super Multi usally means support for various types of DVDs...DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R DL, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, CD-R, CD-RW.

Not sure what happened to that link and I seem to have lost the bookmark - spooky!
    :)

Price range = no concern (ex-demo model - good savings)

    To recap:
I need a laptop to install XP on and use for:
    -basic net duties,
    -copying photos from digital camera
    -maybe some DVD playback

Which system will do that without cra-a-a-aaawl-ing.
Also, if the Celerons won't do it, what exactly are they useful for? (just curious)

    1:
    AMD Turion 64 MK-36 - 2GHz, 512KB L2 Cache
    512MB DDR2

    2:
    AMD Athlon 64 TK-55 - 1.8GHz, up to 800MHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache
    1GB DDR2 (2 x 512MB)

    3:
    AMD Turion 64 MK-38 - 2.2GHz
    1GB Fast DDR RAM

    4
    AMD Sempron 3600 2GHz
    1GB (1*1024MB) DDR2 533MHz

    5
    Celeron M540 1.86 GHz
    1GB DDR2-667MHz

    6
    Celeron M 520 1.6GHz
    512MB DDR II SDRAM

    7
    Celeron M 520 1.6GHz
    2GB DDR2

My choice would be #2. I can't seem to pull up info from the AMD site but poking around it looks like it is a Dual Core (two CPUs on one chip). #3 may be faster but its a single core. All of the CPUs should be okay for what you want if for but get at least 1 Gig of RAM.

Celrons are fine just a bit older. Centrinos are newer.
