When he was preparing for the series they were trying different ears, he went home once wearing a set, he said his kids didn't even notice, so yeah he is Spock

 

On that subject, ironically, the original network executives hated the Spock character. Their comments were "Star Trek is too 'cerebral', and get rid of the guy with the ears." So much for them being able to 'read' the public.

The main idea behind the character of Spock, was not just be an alien, but to illustrate the ultimate egalitarianism of the 23rd century. And that discrimination in it's many forms goes beyond race and religion, and extends to anyone considered a so-called minority.

Like most of Star Trek (the original), it was also a play on the social/ethical issues of the mid-60’s era.

Yeppers. Gene Roddenberry was very careful to have a wide cross-section of stereotypes, and all were actually the nationality they portrayed (except Lt. Uhura wasn't exactly Swahili). They had a "Ruski" (Checkov), a black woman (Uhura), a Scotsman (Scotty), a Japanese (Sulu), and an alien (Spock).

Episodes such as 'Let that Be Our Last Battlefield', were particularly poignant. With Beel and Loki, who were mortal enemies except for one was black on the right side of his body and white on the left, and the other was vice-versa. Seems no one noticed but each other. Eventually their entire civilizations were wiped out, and all they had left was eternal, burning hatred - for ever. Forty years later, the message in still just as relevant.

Nice pic, Solange! . . . I appreciate Picard. I don't find him dashing, but I think his character was more cerebral then Kirk. If I wanted to negotiate some dispute between two parties, I'd call Picard.

But if I wanted some help in kicking some Alien butt that stole, lets say . . . all earth's tasty chickens . . . I'd have to call Kirk!. By the time Picard got through negotiating with the aliens they would have already fried and eaten all the chickens, and my favorite food would be lost forever!
